Chapter 9 - 2022 Car Launch

SOPHIE POV

It is currently the 15th of February 2022 and today is the day we show the world our livery and car for this coming season.

But first let me give you guys a recap of what has been happening over the past 2 months.

Mal and I are now girlfriends, I asked her on our fourth date when we were hiking in Miami. I have been to every game she has been playing for both club and country which has spiked the interest of the gossip tabloids wondering if we were a soulmates as we are yet to come out publicly, which I don't mind as it is still relatively new and you cant have too much privacy but also Mal isn't ready yet. We also met each others families in January, that was fun. We all get along well together.

Anyway back to the present, car launch day.

SKIP TO UNVEILING

The host/presenter guy and chat for a couple minutes before Nick and myself come onto the stage. Jost then talks about why Williams have chosen us two drivers for this season.

"Well that sounds great Nick" the host says after Nicholas talks about what he was up to in the winter break.

"And Sophie welcome to Formula 1 how does it feel?" The host asks me.

"It feels great, obviously working with and driving for a team with such a huge legacy Williams has gives you certain expectations that perhaps are higher that that of other teams, but I feel like I can definitely help this team improve and gain more points than we did last year." I reply with a huge smile on my face.

"Well, now we are going to reveal the car, obviously you three have seen the car already so in one word can you describe it for me" the host asks us three.

"Beauty" Jost says

"Fresh" Nicholas says

"Clean" I say

There is then a cut to a couple minute video that shows off the car before the video ends and shows the physical car.

We then spend the next hour or so doing some promo shots around Silverstone with the new car and then we finish up for the day.

A FEW HOURS LATER

Right now I'm in my home chilling out talking to Mal on Facetime talking about how the launch went.

"So how did you like driving the new car?" Mal asks me while munching on some popcorn, the team are having a team bonding night tonight while their at their camp in France and its in her room so no one has arrived yet.

"It was great, the car felt smooth to drive but we'll understand the car better come the Barcelona pre season session as the FIA have put it, where we get to put proper miles into the carto see what is happening where and where we can improve the car before the season starts." I reply and then notice that the door behind her opens and some of her teammates walk in.

"Hey Mal, who you talking to?" I hear Alex ask my soulmate.

"I'm talking to Sophie, everyone say hi" Mal replies before I hear a lot of HI's, Hey's and Hello's and I chuckle.

"Well seeing as you guys are all there I will let you go Mally and I'll talk to you later, bye everyone!" I say before getting a chorus of bye's before Mal walks out the room.

"So I'll talk to you tomorrow then?" Mal asks as she sits down in the corridor

"Yep, I'll talk to you tomorrow after I've finished my meetings with the team and done some simulator work, so maybe around 9pm tomorrow night we can have a virtual movie date? is that ok?" I ask her unsure if she has anything planned with the team or not.

"Yep! I'll talk to you tomorrow then because as far as I know we don't have anything planned goodnight Sophie" She says

"Goodnight Mally" I reply before we both hang up.

MAL POV

"So how's Sophie? didn't she have that big car launch today or something?" Christen asks

"She's great and yes they launched the 2022 car today, so for the next few weeks in the lead up to the season she is going to be hella busy, but she is trying to find time for us in the evenings which is super sweet" I say with a smile on my face.

"Awww baby Mal is in love" Kelley teases which makes me blush.

"Ok thats enough teasing, Kelley" Tobin says and I give her a grateful smile.

For the rest of the night we watched movies and played some games, it was a great night with the team.

SOPHIE POV

"Thank you so much for your help guys" I say to the police officers as they drag the away the man that thought it would be a good idea to break into my house.

Luckily I have a security system in place in my house that alerted the police of the break in as well as the fact that I am trained in self defence and I had a baseball bat that met his face when he came around the corner. The police arrived a couple minutes later, seen him on the floor and took him away after taking my statement.

I check the time and it's 4:30 AM, this normally wouldnt be a bad time to get up as I usually get up around 5 - 5:30 AM to get a quick gym session in before I head off to the Williams HQ to get some work done with the team, but this is after a good amount of sleep, I was woken up by that prick at 2:30 AM and the whole ordeal took 2 hours to carry out because the police had to collect evidence and whatnot. So right now I'm making two espresso shots in a bid to keep me awake, luckily though we are flying to Barcelona for the pre season session today so I will be able to sleep on the plane on the way there.

SKIP TO ARRIVING AT WILLIAMS

"Morning Jost" I say then yawn

"Morning Sophie, are you okay? you're usually more energetic at this time in the morning?" he says checking his watch. It's 7 AM.

"Yeah I'm ok just tired because some asshole decided 2:30 AM was a good time to break in to my house and then I spent 2 hours talking with the police about what happened while they collected what they needed but dont worry everything is fine now nothing to worry about it's all been sorted but I cannot wait to get some sleep on the plane." I say and his eyes widen in shock.

"At least you are ok" He says before we board the plane

TIME SKIP 

We have just landed in Barcelona and let me just say, it feels great to have had some more sleep and I feel refreshed and ready to go, the next few days will be prep for the pre season session before we start the pre season on Wednesday, so far our plan is to alternate sessions for the three day session where I will Drive in the morning on Wednesday, the afternoon on Thursday and the morning on Friday, this way we both get to understand how the car works in different conditions.

We arrive at the hotel that we will be staying at for the next week so I decide to shoot Mal a text to see if we could chat and to let her know that I arrived in Barcelona but I don't get a reply, she must be sleeping.

Well anyways I decide to get changed into different clothes after having a shower before heading down to the reception area to meet up with the rest of the Williams guys and girls to head off to the track where we will have a meeting to finalise our plans for this pre season track session.

After a couple of hours of meetings regarding our plans and other technical stuff with how they want us to go about this week's sessions and what data they are hoping and looking for, I'm now in bed watching some Big Bang Theory before deciding to get some sleep.
