The sound of someone's screams awoke the 6 year old Adriana. When she got out of bed and followed the noise, it lead her to the kitchen. She saw her mother get slapped across the face with such a force she fell to the floor. Her gasp made her father stop.

Her mother, from her place on the floor slowly spoke "Adriana, honey, just go back to your room I'll be there in a bit to tuck you in, alright." Paralyzed by fear Adriana stayed where she was.

Her father took a step towards her. "You best be listening to your mother, child."

Her father's voice broke Adriana out of her trance. She slowly backed away from her parents and went to her room. She kept hearing screams and pleading from her mother to her father to stop. All of a sudden the voices just stopped. She waited for her mother to come and tuck her in, but after an hour she went to look for her mother. Adriana had assumed her mother fell asleep after the fight. When she went to her parent's room and saw the bed empty, she assumed her mother was too tired to make it to the bed and decided to sleep on the couch. Adriana went into all the rooms looking for her mother. She finally found her on the kitchen floor in a pool of blood. She fell to her knees crying and trying to wake up her mother.

"MOM, WAKE UP!!!!" She screamed.

"Your mother won't awake, child," stated her father from across the room.
