Itzel Bolivar grew up in a small town called Valentine, Texas. Her Papa worked in the fruit fields whenever the season came. Once the season passed he would work in his shop fixing up old vintage cars. At first, it didn't bring in much money but as word go out that his work was pretty good in his car business he began to really earn his lot. Her Mama was a simple yet fiery woman. She is an amazing cook and Itzel finally convinced her to sell food. It began as an occasional thing at first it started as once a month, then once a week, and eventually got to the point that she was selling food three times a week. She would make mole, tamales, pozole, pastel de tres leches and so many other traditional Mexican foods. Itzel helped in whatever way she could, but her parent insisted she focus on her studies. You see, Itzel's parents didn't even finish high school. They immigrated from Mexico a year before Itzel was born. They hoped that coming to the United States would give her the opportunity to be someone better than they could ever be. Itzel grew up knowing what is was like to be poor and have to pinch pennies to survive.
She knew that she wanted to give her parents everything they had given to her and more. She took her studies seriously never slacking and never turning in an assignment late. She eventually graduated from high school. She then went to college and chose pre-med as her major. She was determined to make her parents proud. She was graduating from her undergraduate program in a few months and for many of her friends that meant they were done with school. Her two closest friends Yossi and Maite both went to the same college as her. Yossi always aspired to be a kindergarten teacher and it really did fit her well. She is kind, soft-spoken, and patient. Maite was just the opposite, she was stubborn and passionate. She has great debate skills and she knows it. Maite plans to go to law school, but she first wants to take a gap year before "being enslaved to her studies" as she likes to say. These three girls grew up together and understood one another in a deep way, having all similar experiences and backgrounds. Yossi and Maite moved to San Antonio to get out of Valentine. It was easy for them to do so, both their parents planned on moving back to Mexico after the girls graduated. She couldn't leave her parents quite yet, but she knew if she wanted to go to medical school it would mean moving away. Itzel was now 22 years old and knew that if she wanted to do great things the last thing she needed was a distraction and boys were just that very things. She was married to her studies, she did go on dates, many times they wouldn't work out because she "couldn't make time to see them" so she just didn't even bother anymore. She needed someone who would understand her and encourage her to grow. She didn't stress about finding that someone so why should you.

I answer the last question and click on the bright blue button that says "submit". I take a deep breath as if I had been holding it for what seems like hours. I lean back on my chair and raise my hand to let the moderator know I am done with my test. She reviews it and lets me know everything has been sent through. I gather my stuff and make my way out of the building, the sun has never felt so good, especially after 6 hours of test-taking. I walk over to my black 1967 Chevy Impala, get in, and call my mom.
"Hey mama it's me just wanted to let you know I just got out of the testing center do you need anything from San Antonio before I go back home. I'll probably drive home early tomorrow it's gonna get dark soon" I said sticking the key in the ignition making it roar to life. It was 6:45 in the afternoon.
"How did it go!?! Tell me all about it, do you feel like you did good???" She said as she began to bombard me with questions.
"Ama calm down, I feel great about it I have no doubt in my mind I passed now I just need to wait for a call from admissions to see if they are letting me into the school. So do you need anything from San Antonio?" I said smiling at her worriedness.
"You are a bright one, they would be fools not to let you in. We don't need anything from town honey, just for you to come back home" She said
"Alright don't get all cheesy on me, mama. Well, I'll let ya go, I should probably get going to Yossi and Maite's place anyway. Adios mama dile a papa que le mando un beso." I said
"Adios Mija te cuidas mucho," She said bidding me goodbye.
I hung up the phone and made my way back to the Yossi and Maite's apartment. It was a short drive from the testing center to their apartment. I think I deserve to celebrate finishing that damn MCAT. I pull into the parking lot of their apartment complex and park next to Yossi's little buggy. I walk up the steps and knock our little secrete knock that we made up when we were 10 years old.
"I AM COMING, MOVE YOSSI" I hear Maite yell from inside the apartment.
"AHHHH MAITE!" Yossi screams probably trying to avoid Maite from trampling her.
The door opens and I see Maite with half of her hair curled and the other half straight. To the left behind their nice couch, I see Yossi hiding from the wrath of Maite.
"How did it go? when do you get your results?" Maite asked as I walked past her and into the apartment taking a seat on the couch Yossi was hiding behind.
"It went well, they will call me early next week letting me know they received my score and if they are going to let me into the program," I said pinching the bridge of my nose.
"Don't worry Itzel, I have no doubt in my mind you made it in" Yossi said peaking her head up from behind the couch.
"It's time to celebrate," Maite said as she walked back to the bathroom to finish curling her hair.
"Fine, but I get to chose the club this time because last time we let you choose, Maite, we ended up in a sketchy ass club," I said earning a chuckle from Yossi.
"Whatever at least we had fun, what club did you want to go to?" She asked peeking her head out of her room.
"let's go to Juno"
