The clouds darkened. Isabella hardly noticed the booming thunder. She was too busy enjoying her birthday dinner with her family at her favorite restaurant. She dug her spoon into the warm, gooey apple pie, her favorite dessert.
"That was delicious," she announced as her and her family walked out of the restaurant. "I wish every night could be like--"
With a loud crack! a strike of lightning shot down...and hit Isabella in the head.
Her mind became blank. All she could think was What's going to happen to me? She heard the faint voices of her panicking family. She heard her 5-year-old sister, Lily crying.
