Merediths POV-

A few hours after my breakdown with Bailey, Derek and I were lying down watching a film when he spoke. "Meredith my mother is visiting"

I froze, I don't do mothers...

"why?" I respond.

He kissed me gently on the forehead before continuing "Mark called her that night, I think he thought I would do something stupid, she came as soon as she could. She loves you already." I don't get it mothers don't like me they never do.

"How does she love me, she doesn't even know me?"

He brushes my face out my hair. "I've told her about you, a lot and my mother just knows when someone is a good person, she actually stood at the window watching you for me when I was forced out by Bailey and Mark."

I smile softly knowing that he was surrounded by people who loved him these last days.

"Oh, also my mom almost punched Addison for you."

I laugh slightly shocked. "Wait really?"

He chuckles with me "Really Mer, Mark had to drag her away as she swung the punch."

I rest my head on his shoulder " I love you, Derek, thank you for saving me"

He smiles kissing me "I don't think I'd survive without you Meredith, I love you so much."

It is then that I can see an older-looking woman smiling at us through the window of the hospital room from the corner of my eye."Derek is that your mom?" I ask

he looks out the window smiling "Yes it is"

"Derek, I want to meet her" the shock on his face mirrors that in my mind that I just said those words, how am I all of a sudden so accepting of the idea of meeting his mother. Normally I'd avoid it like the plague.

"Really?" he asks, the shock in his voice evident "because you don't have to if it's too much, I know this is like a whole new experience for you. I mean you -"

Before he can continue rambling I cut him off "really Derek I want to, also rambling is my thing" I laugh.

Laughing with me "Okay, remember I'm right here and if you want her to leave just tell me and ill get her to go okay"

"Okay" I smile

He motions towards his mom with a big grin painted on his face, she notices entering slowly and cautiously smiling sweetly.

"Hello, Meredith."
