"Since you've been gone,
I can't sleep,
I can't eat,
I can't breeeeeeathe...
Since you've been gone,
I've missed you,
What should I do?
Tell me the truuuuuth...
Have you missed meeee
Since you've been gone?"
Mia Thomas frowned at her notepad and drew a question mark next to the last two lines. Then she sang the lines again, tapping the end of her pen against the notepad. She sat in a California king-sized bed with her knees drawn up to her chest and the notepad balanced on her knees. She was average height, with a perfect medium brown complexion she could thank her Venezuelan and African-American parents for, slanted dark eyes, a cute nose, and full lips. Flat-ironed hair tied up into a knot, wearing gray sweatpants and a hoodie with no makeup on. No muss, no fuss. Just lyric writing.
A tall, light-skinned man walked out of the master bathroom. He was completely nude, running a towel over his head as he entered the bedroom. Golden-brown skin that paled in the winter, hair he'd recently cut into a low fade, thick dark brows, downturned chocolate brown eyes, and the most perfectly-shaped lips, which were currently formed into a mischievous grin...the epitome of gorgeous. He ran a towel over his head as he entered the bedroom. His strut was just as cocky as the rest of him. "Onto something?" he asked her.
And then there's him, she thought, touching the end of the pen to her lips while watching him. No big deal that her boyfriend happened to be none other than Aubrey Drake Graham, the triple-threat rapper currently dominating the hip hop game. No big deal that he recently released an album called 6ix, an album that she was given co-writing credits for and an album he'd talked her into providing vocals for. No biggie, right?
He arched a curious look at her before heading into the expansive wardrobe closet.
No big deal that he's the most beautiful creature to ever walk this planet, and no big deal that I'm practically living with him in his huge Calabasas, California, estate. She'd met him about a year and a half ago at his annual event in Toronto, OVOFest. Ironically, she was there largely in part because her best friend in the world, Bri Smith, was a huge Drake fan. Mia only had mild admiration for him at the time - that was mainly because she hadn't paid a lot of attention to his music.
Once he had introduced himself to her and discovered she was a YouTube singing/songwriting sensation in her own right, with her own following, he had invited her out to YOLO Estate in Calabasas. It was at that point that she was educated in his music. Her respect for him grew significantly, once she took the time to sit down and listen to his lyrics. He was a wordsmith. A very talented wordsmith. My very talented wordsmith, she thought possessively, setting her notepad on the bed and resting her elbows on her knees.
His lyrics were extremely witty, which mirrored his personality. He had a dry wit, a sarcastic sense of humor that turned her on. Everything about him seemed to turn her on. There was no downplaying that. Even after a year and a half of dating, her heart still skipped a beat whenever he walked into the room. Her skin still tingled whenever he touched her. Ever since the first time she'd woken up next to him, she still thought he was at his most adorable and boyish when he was sleeping and those first few moments after he woke up.
He had been hesitant to get involved in a serious relationship, which was understandable. As a rapper at the top of his game, he got offers from women left and right. Some women propositioned him right in front of Mia. They didn't care; there was no shame in their game. Everyone seemed to want a piece of him. He took it in stride, tried his best not to let it get to his head. Sometimes it did, and Mia would call him out on it. Then he would back up a step, re-evaluate himself, and come correct.
