The team decided it was time to return to the monastery.
Lloyd decided to show Sadie around the monastery because she hadn't been there before. He led her through the various rooms and training machines.
"Here's where you will be staying. I know it is a change from the bounty, but we bounce back and forth quite a lot," he said.
"Later today I might go grab a bit more of my stuff from my apartment so that I can fill it a bit. Make it a more like home," Sadie said.
The two had arrived in the living room. They sat down on the couch and began to strike up a conversation.
"Lloyd. It's almost weird to call you by your name," Sadie said, laughing. "Now are you able to tell me about yourself?"
Lloyd was at a loss for words. He knew everything about her but didn't know what to say to her. He couldn't recall the last time anyone had questioned about him. She was completely focused on him and nothing else. He didn't know what to tell her because she wanted to know everything.
They sat and talked for a while, talking about everything and nothing. He talked about his past and where he came from. He had honestly tried to block out a lot of it, but she got every little thing out of him. Were his friends even aware of these facts about him?
"I had a close friend like you once," Sadie said throughout their conversation.
"Where are they now?" He responded.
"I have no idea. After a while, we lost touch. Yeah, it stung for a bit, but I got over it. It kind of made me stronger now that I realize it," she said back.
"I'm sorry about that, Sadie, truly," Lloyd said.
"So what is your family like?" Sadie asked.
"That's quite the long story..." he remained quiet for a second.
"Take your time," she said, "if it's not the right time I understand."
"I am still very close with my mom, my dad not so much..." he said. He began to start telling his story in minimal detail. He tried to leave out as much personal detail as he could out. He did let it slip through that he feared becoming like his father. He just felt so safe talking to her, but he still could not let his guard down.
The two shared a moment of reflection before commotion started outside. A knock came at the door, and Lloyd got up to go see who it was. Misako, his mother, greeted him as he opened the door. What timing that was.
"Mom!" Lloyd exclaimed, overjoyed to see her again.
"Hello, my son!" Said Misako, running over to give her son a hug.
"Oh how I've missed you," said Lloyd.
From where she was, Sadie smirked. All she could recall were happy memories of her and her mother before she died. Oh, how she wanted desperately for her in this moment.
"Mom, this is Sadie. She's new to the team," said Lloyd.
"Sadie! Hello! You know it's funny you look just like a friend Lloyd had when he was younger. You know what? Her name was Sadie as well," said Misako.
The two flashed back to their recent conversation. Their eyes widened as they turned to face each other. They were at a loss for words. Were they really friends when they were younger? Sadie then rose from her seat on the couch.
"Misako! Hello! It was really nice meeting you!. I hope to talk to you soon, but I just need to run to the apartment real quick," said Sadie.
She dashed out the door in a hurry. Misako remained perplexed by what had been said, but Lloyd sat stunned.
"Mom, I need you to tell me more about this Sadie from my childhood."
