in Auf Wiedersehen Sweetheart, the happy ending wasn't real. when Feliciano and Ludwig were separated, they never met again. Feliciano was suffering from depression, as he was in the story, but took his own life. Roderich appearing, reuniting with Ludwig, their happy ending... it wasn't real. it was the perfect afterlife for him to be in peace. none of it ever happened.
