AN: Occurs after the Gem Wars.
Peridot's POV:
I can't believe I let this happen. I was supposed to help my kind, not start a war. This is all that Rose Quartz's fault. All because she wanted to protect the Earth. Of all places, Earth.
What good is this place anyway? I think as I grasp some of the dirt beneath me. Its just...well, earth. What does she see in it? I bet its those humans. I shudder at the thought. Those heathens. They destroyed what little beauty this place held.
As I head to my ship, I hear a shuffling behind me. I whip around to face what I assume is an assailant.
"Who's there? Show yourself, " I say in a monotone.
"Jasper. Who are you?" the tall, beautiful orange and red gem asks.
"My name is Peridot," I say hesitantly. I can't afford to trust her just yet.
"Why are you still here? Its all over now," she says, I catch a hint of remorse in her voice.
"I was just...it doesn't matter. Why are you here?"
"I have nowhere to go," Jasper says, her gruff demeanor faltering but she soon composes herself. I was like her once. Lost, alone but then Yellow Diamond found me. Its not perfect but it's better than what I had.
"Would you like to join me? I was just going to return to my home and my...employer."
"I don't need your help," she says with a blank expression. She can attempt to hide it but even I am scarred slightly from this whole ordeal. All of the remaining gems are.
"I insist."
She nods and follows me aboard the vessel. She hesitantly sits in the passenger seat, watching my every move. I activate the manual drive and begin the journey to Home World. I find it difficult to keep my eyes off her. She really is beautiful, in her own way. She's also very quiet, which just adds to the allure and interest. Somehow I remain focused and we arrive at my quarters. We enter and are immediately embraced by silence. Neither of us speak, hoping the other will first. I shift awkwardly as I try not to look at her gem which is in the middle of her face, in the place of a nose. It's rather...cute. She continuously stares at me, with no words or expression. I attempt to break the silence but change my mind many times.
"I am just going to work on some projects," I say as I head towards my work space. Jasper stands across the room with her arms crossed, watching me. I shift in my seat, a bit uncomfortable. I try to program a green orb again but it is disobedient and I crush it swiftly.
"I'll never get these things to work," I mutter under my breath.
"What are they?" I hear Jasper say directly behind me, making me jump.
"Oh, um...they're scouts. Once I get them to listen to me, I'll send them to Earth."
"Can I see?" she asks and I nod. She leans in close to me and reaches toward the now broken orb. It oozes green as she examines it but she doesn't seem fazed. Jasper looks at it, slightly puzzled. She sets it down and looks back at me. She leans down just slightly and for a moment I think she might kiss me as her face is only 3.67 inches away.
"They're very interesting," she whispers and leans back and I release a breath I wasn't aware of holding.
"T-thank you," I mutter, trying to hide my blush and she walks away from me. If she's staying. this was going to be a long night.
