A/N: Welcome to Angst Town, Population: this series of oneshots. I wouldn't read this if you are in a particular state of fragility. This first part is all good, fluffity fluff fluff but part two will have lots of homophobia probably. Suicide triggers in the final installment. I'm sorry for even writing this honestly but I have to. Will be three parts.
Amethyst POV:
Our love...it's wild. Really. Not in a super sexual way either like my past relationships, but in the way we move with each other and around each other regardless of what we're doing. Even if we're just up in her room doing homework, there's a certain something there y'know? Maybe it's the risk we're taking whenever we're together. Her parents, our town, our friends being idiots and telling people. It's a constant question of who will ruin this. When is this going to crash and burn? Because...that's what it feels like. But that's just how we are. And you know what? I love it.
"Hey P!" I shout in her ear as I sneak up behind her.
"Amethyst! I told you to stop that!" she turns to me.
"Yeah but you're cute when you jump like that," I say in a hushed tone that I hope only she can hear. I'm out and I'm happy despite the ridicule but she...she's different.
"Amethyst...not here, okay?" she worriedly looks around the empty row of lockers. She and I both know it's just us but last time we trusted that our friends Ruby and Sapphire found us. They're a couple so they didn't care but that wasn't the problem. If we tell people about us it has the potential to get back to Pearl's strict, incredibly homophobic family. That's just how small our town is.
"I know...it just kinda slipped out," I tell her, looking down at my feet. I love her but sometimes this is just so hard. I see guys looking at her constantly because she is so beautiful and it sucks...for both of us. She has to deal with them by making some bullshit excuse as to why she can't go on a date with them and I have to stand by and watch them be able to compliment her more than I can. Although their compliments are usually along the lines of, 'Hey girl! Nice rack!' but at least they can say something even though it's incredibly offensive. Trust me is hard to restrain myself from punching them in their stupid faces.
"I'm sorry," she mutters, still leaning against her locker, book in hand.
"Don't be, P. It's fine," I reassure her. NO ITS NOT my brain tells me but there's nothing I'd rather do than be with her even if I'm not really with her. The lunch bell screeches over our heads and soon students file in the once empty hall. She nods me goodbye and glides to her next class like a fairy. Which sounds dumb but seriously, if you saw it. I am, once again, left alone. Well until Peridot arrives at her locker, which is directly to the left of Pearl's.
"Hello Amethyst," she greets.
"Hey Peridot," I say, plastering a grin to my face again.
"Are you, by any chance, doing anything after school?" she asks, while grabbing a green notebook from the tiny space.
"Uh...not to my knowledge, no. Why?" I don't actually have to ask this. I know what she wants. She recently broke up with her girlfriend, Jasper, because Jasper thought that Peridot had been cheating on her. With me. Which isn't entirely unfounded because Peridot has been pursuing me since she moved here in eighth grade.
"I was wondering if you wanted to join me at the movie theatre. Just us," she says without an ounce of real emotion, not really. She's a little like a robot. Which is fine because she's funny but she isn't being very funny now. I'm about to respond when the bell rings, saved by the bell.
"Meet me in front of the math building after school," I say rather quickly as I rush to my final class.
~~~
"Peridot asked me out," I tell Pearl while we're looking through stacks of scripts in our theatre class.
"Oh."
"What does that mean?" I ask, stopping my search to look directly at her.
"Nothing, just oh," she says, fidgeting. She's a terrible liar by the way.
"I'm not gonna say yes."
"Why would I care about that Amethyst?" she says rather loudly, nodding towards the others that are in the room with us. Lars and Sadie I think.
"Because you're my best friend," I say, gritting my teeth slightly at referring her as so for the thousandth time.
"Come with me to the bathroom," she tells me, walking away without a second glance. This is code for 'I'm gonna ask for the pass, you follow me and we're actually going to the supply closet on the second floor of the language building because I am indeed pissed at you.' I kill time while she asks for the pass and she walks towards the exit, stopping to 'tie her shoe' and wait for me to follow. I catch up and she grabs my wrist and drags me into the commons, up the goddamn stairs, around the building, and promptly shoves me into the tiny room.
"Pearl, what the he-" I begin but before I can finish she grabs my face and kisses me hard. She's frantic and I know she's scared because she's not this...um uncoordinated when she's calm. This is too much to be just about me being asked out by Peridot. I force her to slow down the kiss and pull back. "What's wrong?"
"I-I'm sorry," she chokes out, in the darkness I feel a tear hit my thumb where my hands are resting on her cheeks.
"Pearl, tell me what happened," I ask again lowering her to sit, leaning against the door with my arm around her.
"...My dad knows..." she whispers so quietly it's hardly audible. I feel her terror coming off of her in waves and she breaks down in my arms.
"Hey hey hey. We are going to be okay," I don't know if that's entirely true but, god, I hope it is.
A/N: Part One, there it is. Give me some feedback, I'm kinda rusty since I haven't written in a while(I'm so sorry!!)
