Lapis x Jasper

AN: I'm sorry but this is another AU, I'll try to do a not AU one later.

Lapis POV:

"Today we will be doing another partner project," Ms. Pearl said from her spot at the front of the classroom. Another? Seriously? We just did one last week!

"Can we choose our partners?" Ruby said from her desk.

"No, I will put you in pairs so no mishaps occur," Ms. Pearl said while shooting a look to Amethyst and Jasper who somehow blew up their project last time. I listen for a few minutes as she recites the pairings, Sapphire and Amethyst, Ruby and Peridot, and then I stopped listening. After a few more names I hear her call my own , oh God not her please not her. "Lapis and Jasper. That's all the pairs now meet, and begin working please."

I groan and sigh heavily at the thought of working with her yet again. I begrudgingly walk over to her desk as slowly as I can to postpone this.

"C'mon move a bit faster, Lazuli," Jasper yells at me but I still don't speed up. God, I hate her. I make it to her desk and she pulls out the empty chair beside her with sneer but I refuse the seat. She rolls her eyes and puts her feet up on it instead.

"So, what are we doing then?" she says as I stand near the desk.

"We should probably do the assignment," I say monotonously.

"Really? I didn't know that," Jasper says, sarcasm lacing her voice, "I meant what section of the textbook are we doing."

"Oh right, I couldn't tell over the sound of your idiocy," I say with a glare, "I don't care, you choose. I'll end up doing all of it anyway..." I mutter the last part under my breath. Ms. Pearl teaches History of Gems so we have to choose a section from our Gem History textbook. Jasper flips her book to a random page and it lands on the Gem Wars.

"Let's do this one," Jasper says.

"Seriously? You didn't even think about it, you just chose randomly!" I tell her with annoyance.

"So what? It doesn't matter, with you on my side we'll ace any chapter we choose," she says smugly and I know this time won't be any different from the others. We've been paired together in various classes all year. I don't know what the teachers are thinking when we visibly hate each other.

"Fine. Gem Wars it is then," I say as I take an empty seat across from her and begin rereading the chapter. I'm half-way through and I can feel something kick me under the table. I look up at Jasper who is pretending to read but I can hear her snickering quietly under her breath.

"Jasper?" I say bitterly. She looks up and plasters an innocent look on her face.

"Yes, Lapis?" she says in a mocking tone.

"Can you please refrain from kicking me under the table?" I say with a fake-sweet voice.

"I can't refrain from something I didn't do," she says, smirking.

"No, you cannot. But seeing as you did kick me under the table, you can stop it," I stare her down and she just rests her chin on her hands and looks at me.

"Well, if I did it, I would stop now wouldn't I?" she says and I feel another foot kick me in the leg.

"Jasper! You did it again!" I growl but I try to avoid Ms. Pearl's attention.

"I did no such thing, Lazuli," she says grinning.

"You're a pathetic liar," I say through gritted teeth. Why does she get to be so calm in these situations but I have to blow a gasket?
