Sanemi's pov.
"Shinazugawa, why don't you stay here a little longer? Even after the festival."
"That's really not necessary. Anyways, I'd rather live in the comfort of my own home."
"That's alright, then."
"Hey, that's not what I meant! I mean to live in the comfort of my own home with you."
"Ha!?"
Samemi grinned endearingly at Giyuu, as he was reluctant to answer. He then felt Giyuu's blank stare and decided to let go of his hand. Covering his mouth, he tried to contain his laugh. Nothing was more rewarding than seeing such a reserved person react this way.
"Pft! I'm fucking joking! Don't take it too seriously."
"Oh, In that case..."
"Unless?"
"No, Shinazugawa."
"Ha! Your choice."
"Let's head back to the house. There's not much to see anymore."
Upon returning to Giyuu's estate, there wasn't much to do except train. He found it strange that there were no missions told by his Kasugai Crow, as today, he was feeling absolutely fine. There was also plenty of time to kill. Though he had been unconscious for a couple of days, his bird should have bickered at him, after all, Hashiras shouldn't falter.
That Oyakata-sama...
During the hot afternoon, Sanemi trained in the blazing sun, sweat pouring from every part of his body. It was impossible for him to keep track of how many times he swung his sword. All he could hear was the swooshing sounds of blade work coming from him and the graceful slayer.
"Hey, Tomioka. Want to spar?"
"Well, sure."
"Hmm... how about we make things more interesting?"
"In what way?"
"How about a deal?"
"That depends on what you're asking."
"How about the winner of the duel gets a wish?"
"And how would one be the victor?"
"First person who falls to the ground loses."
"Agreeable. Deal."
They faced the opposite direction of each other, standing an appropriate distance apart. Sanemi was smugger than ever while Giyuu had his serious demeanor on. He had a devious plan, but he was uncertain whether it would work.
Both Sanemi and Giyuu swung at each other for more than an hour. As if they were battling real demons, the two of them refused to give up. Another person could have mistaken this scene for bloodshed if they had seen it. Seeing them as such, it might be possible for them to be disbanded from the corps. Sanemi knew he was pushing it a bit too far, but he needed to stick to his plan.
The non-stop clanging of their swords continued on for two more hours. Giyuu and Sanemi already started showing signs of fatigue. Sanemi needed to end this quickly as he felt more and more impatient. Swiftly, while blocking Giyuu's downward attack, he glances over to find a decently sized rock. He accurately kicks it straight into Giyuu's path.
Finally! Now, he'll jus- Oh shit. I didn't think this part through.
Giyuu falls hard onto Sanemi's body, unintentionally pushing all of his weight onto the other. Both of their weapons dropped to the ground with a clang. Sanemi stared up at Giyuu, as the Water Pillar hovered over his tired body. All that could be heard was heavy panting, as all that could be felt was the rising and falling of breathing on each other's chests.
