Giyuu's pov. 

Giyuu sheltered his eyes with one hand as the sun crawled through the window of their privacy. Blink by blink, his vision cleared to the awakening morning. Giyuu turned to his other side, facing Sanemi, still and sound asleep from their tiresome, but rewarding actions from the night prior. The early morning shone onto his face, his eyelids slightly twitching from the sun's natural wake-up call. Not wanting to disturb Sanemi's sleep, Giyuu shaded his eyes as he had done for himself before. 

He lay there staring at Sanemi's peaceful face, recounting the many deeds they committed last night. The temperature in his body quickly rose as he remembered how vocal they were, and especially himself. He quietly slapped his mouth repeatedly, as his mind swarmed in embarrassment. 

We're not even married and we did that... Well, I did like it though...

Distracted by his thoughts, he didn't quite realize that Sanemi was half-awake watching him panic in distress. With a small smirk on his face, he reached to touch Giyuu's hair, messing with it playfully, then placing a kiss on his nose. Giyuu grinned in response, shyly averting his gaze. 

"Sanemi, you're awake."

"I was a long time ago. Just waiting for you to wake up."

"Well, then we should leave soon."

"What's the rush? Scared to face everyone that heard us in the inn?" Sanemi asked provokingly, but without meaning harm. 

Giyuu didn't respond in the flustered mess he'd become one with. 

"I won't let anyone mess with us, especially those who see our relationship as being alien." 

"I trust you, Sanemi," Giyuu answered with firm belief. 

"I trust you too."

As the seasons passed, Sanemi and Giyuu grew more affectionate towards one another. It was rare not to see them together after their missions concluded. However most of the time, their tasks were assigned together out of the kindness of Oyakata-sama. It was very valuable to them both that they were able to protect the other person in times of distress. It was as if their lives were entangled through destiny to love and care for each other. Perhaps an invisible red string of fate had connected them from the beginning of time. It was only when they had discovered each other, that would they finally become complete. Through happiness, sadness, anger, jealousy, and lust, they experienced it all, sharing pieces of their souls to a profound understanding. 

Sitting underneath a cherry blossom tree upon a vast valley lit by a beautifully round full moon, Sanemi and Giyuu rested their heads against each other, admiring the falling delicate pink petals carried out by the gentle wind. Giyuu wore his exquisite hairpin, making sure to never lose it again. Their hands entangled, reminding Giyuu of that time when Sanemi had first done so when they had watched a sunrise after defeating the snake demon together. 

"Giyuu, look over there," Sanemi said as he pointed to a vague area, diverting Giyuu's attention away from him. 

"What? Where?"

As Giyuu looked at his surroundings in confusion, he turned back to face Sanemi who was on one knee holding out an opened expensive box with a beautifully elegant silver ring placed in the middle. 

Is he going to...?

"I suppose this is the new way to propose from the Westerners," Sanemi said with a smile. 

"Sanemi..." Giyuu gasped in shock. 

"I love you so much, Giyuu. I want the remaining time we have time together to be filled with everlasting joy, void of any more pain and suffering."

"I love you so much as well, Sanemi..."

"Giyuu, will you marry me?" 

"Of course I will." 

Smiling widely, Giyuu held out his left hand as Sanemi slipped the cool metal onto his ring finger, fitting perfectly. Giyuu's eyes began to well up in tears from the overwhelming feelings of joy and fulfillment that engulfed his mind. As he wrapped his arms around Sanemi's neck with a tight squeeze, and Sanemi's hands traced around his waist, they shared a kiss that sealed in time for an eternity to remember.
