Chapter 2

Kaylinas pov

"Hey I'm home!" I heard Gaby call from down stairs. The events that occurred earlier today replayed in my head. "How was the date?" I yelled without thinking twice i began to walk down the stairs. The hushed tones and whispers indicated she wasn't alone.

As I made it to the bottom step I saw Jai and Luke on the couch. They were absentmindedly playing COD.

Gaby stared at the bloody gore that was taking place on the television screen. Her facial expression implied she was not entertained. "Kay!" She jumped with joy. "Hi. Is he staying? It's almost 10." I whispered. "Yeah my moms taking the late shift so. Luke and I were about to go up to my room. " she nudged her head towards Jai. A small smirk was planted on his face."uh Jai? Do you want to help me....with my......uhh....thing. In the kitchen?" I nervously suggested. His eyes looked up from the screen. "Uh sure." He said. Without turning the system off or pausing it, he dropped his controller and followed me. Gaby mouthed the words thank you. "Baby, um let's go watch a movie in my room." She suggested as I left the room.

"What do you need help with?" He asked. He tried to hide the huge smile that grew on his face. "Um could you.....like.....uh-" I said. He let out a small chuckle as I struggled to come up with an excuse on why I called him in the kitchen.

"Well um I could drop you off at home if you want." I suggested. I turned the sink on and let the cold water run over my fingers. "I can drive...." He stated quietly. My eyes widen. A puzzled look appeared on my face. "What? How old are you?" I questioned. I mean when we were kids I always assumed he was much younger than I was. "I'm 16. I'm in 10th grade." He said. He brushed his hair to the side of his face.

"Oh.... Baby Jai us all grown up now." I mocked. He didn't seem too amused at my comment. "Okay....um I'll still drop you off." I said. I wiped the cold liquid on my dress as I grabbed the keys.

When I got outside the cold air hit my face. "Wow it's cold." I stated as the goosebumps started to form on my legs and arms. "Oh here take my jacket." Jai offered. Before I could object the warm black jacket was placed on my shoulders. "Thank you." I said. We walked over to the car. He opened the door for me and shut it. Who knew that boy who ate his boogers as a kid would be such a gentlemen. He's only a year younger..... And kind of cute.

I started the car up as soon as he got in. "So how's school? Any girls you like?" I asked. His cheeks turned rosy pink. "Tell me who she is." I demanded. "Well she's really pretty. But she probably doesn't feel the same way." His happy voice slowly faded. He sounded more depressed than happy. "I'm sure she likes you back." I reassured him.

"Oh. So what should I do to get her attention?" He asked. Aww how cute Jai's asking me for girl advice. I feel like a proud sister. "Um bring flowers or chocolates to her class or something." I said. I know it's kind of cheesy but it works. "Ok we're here." I said. The awkward goodbye would have done, but for some reason Jai didn't get out of the car. "Um... Goodnight." I said. His eyes looked deep into mine. His soft lips brushed up against my cheek. "Goodnight." He stated as he practically ran to his door.

Did Jai just kiss me? I mean it was on the cheek but? seriously? A small smile creeped its way into my face.

I brushed it off as I pulled out of the driveway. It wasn't anything special....just a shock.

As I opened the door to the house, I could hear giggles emerge from Gaby's room. I slowly closed the door and tip toed to my room.

The door creaked open. The black cat ran out. "PRINCESS!" I laughed as she scurried down the steps. I slipped on some sweats and a t shirt before going to bed.

* The next day.

The buzzing of my phone woke me up. It was nearly 7am. Liam :) flashed on the screen.

Liam: hey.....it might be a bit early but I can't wait to see you. Today at the park....around 8?

My eyes lit up.

Me: hey. Um yeah. 8

I replied. Not wanting to leave the comfort of my bed, I pulled the warm covers off of me. I dragged my feet to the hallway. "Woah." I said as I threw my hands up to my eyes. The naked boy stood in the hallway. "It's me Luke." He said. "I know but could you cover up." I demanded. I heard the scuffling of his feet scurry away. I peaked my eye through my open fingers. The hallway was empty.

I jumped into the shower. My finger ran through my wet hair. I slipped into some shorts and a sweater. I braided my long brown hair. "Kay!" Gaby yelled from the other room. I grabbed my tennis shoes and walked towards her room. She was sitting on her bed with Luke. He had clothes on this time. "What?" I asked.

"Oh Jai called. He wanted to hangout with you today." Luke said. He glanced at Gaby. "Yeah you should go hang out with him." She encouraged. "I'll pass. i have plans. Ill see you later." I ran out before they could question me.

It was 7:40. The park was about a 5 minute run. I decided to walk. His name ran through my mind. Mrs.payne. Kaylina Payne. The name had a certain ring to it.

The park was nearly empty. The only people there were old men doing some what of a jog. A few men in their mid twenties going for a run. And by the water fountain there was a brown haired and brown eyed boy.

"Hi Liam." I said as I jogged towards him. His teeth showed as he smiled at me. "So do you want to take a hike?" He asked. His eyes scanned my body. "Uh sure. I might get lost though." I sighed. His hands cupped my chin. "Then we'll get lost together." He said. His lips touched mine. I felt like a bolt of lighting went through my body.

His fingers intertwined with mine. Our steps were in sync as we walked towards the trail. "So is your boyfriend jealous.....that you're hanging out with me?" He asked.

*Flashback

"What the hell kaylina!" Richard yelled. The bulging vein in his forehead looked like it was about to pop. "Rich please. Let me explain. He-he touched me. I didn't even look at-" I tried to explain , but I was too late. His large hand made contacted with my soft cheek. A single tear fell down my face as I tried to regain my strength.

*Flashback ends

"Uh....uh no...I don't have a boyfriend. Um would your girlfriend be jealous that you're hanging out with me?" I said. He smiled. "I don't have a girlfriend." He said. His hand slid down my back. "Liam!?" A woman's voice called from across the trail. "Do you know her?" I asked. His fun loving smile had faded into a serious frown. "No. Um let's go." He said.

"Liam don't ignore me." The small fragile woman said as she tugged Liam back. "Oh who's this hoe. I guess what we had didn't mean anything since you're onto the next one. " she stated. Her eyes examined my body. "You could have called. Or left a note. But no. You fucked me and left. As if I was a toy you grew out of. Well good luck." She directed towards me. She turned around and ran off.

"Uh I don't know wh-" he said. "No. Don't lie to me. I thought you were different." I said. I pulled away from his grip. "Don't text me or call." I said as I ran home.
