The auxiliary policeman thought he only needed to

sort out the documents. But now, he was on the night shift. The thunders since midnight

scared him to death, and after midnight, the noises disappeared, and there was

only the raining sound.

Thankfully, there was a clerk in the backroom; it

was not too scary.

Thinking

about it, he exhaled and sipped his coffee to calm down, and refocused on

the document. He didn’t know a ghost was standing upright in front of him.

At Chen Ming’s request, Zhou Nan decided to call the police like a ghost.

Chen

Ming wanted to report the illegal poppy field but didn’t bother to do it

by himself. He was worried he would have to make a statement.  If dragged in, he would be held in custody for a few days, and the consequences could be severe. Since

he didn’t want more people to learn about it, he asked Zhou Nan, the

transparent ghost, to do the job.

So, Zhou Nan stood at the counter for more than an hour, waiting for the policeman to

go to the toilet so he could leave a note. The policeman didn’t even move after drinking a cup of coffee. Zhou Nan’s eyes went sore after he stared at the policeman for a long time.

The

truth was, the policeman also got chills from being stared at.

Zhou

Nan turned his head to relax his neck. He looked up at the dim energy-saving lamp and suddenly had an idea-since he was already a ghost, why

not scare the man?

The

policeman felt the light had flickered, and he rubbed his eyes. Indeed, the energy-saving

lamp was flickering; it was not his illusion.

“Hey…” he shouted at the backroom, “Something’s

wrong with the light bulb.” As he said, the bulb completely went out.

The

clerk poked out his head and said, “Strange, we just changed it last month… It’s alright. I’ll get a new one in the

warehouse of the logistics department and change it.” He walked out and pulled

out a black umbrella from the barrel at the door.

“Alas? Are you leaving?”

“I’ll be right back.”

The

clerk walked into the rain and fog with the umbrella, leaving the auxiliary

policeman by himself.

He

swallowed uneasily and looked around. There was only the dazzling light from the

laptop, and everything else was in complete darkness.

‘Is there something invisible staring at me in the dark?’ He began to imagine.

He

was right. Zhou Nan was indeed looking at him, not in the dark, but in front of him.  The policeman’s face sweated from nervousness, and

his pupils dilated. It reminded Zhou Nan of how he himself looked when he walked the night road.

It

was funny.

Zhou

Nan realized it was time to do the business after watching for a while. He floated

to the auxiliary policeman, pressed

his phone screen, and unlocked it.

The

light from the phone shocked the policeman, and he thought it was a new text coming. Just

as he calmed down, the unlocked phone put his heart in his throat again.

Zhou

Nan opened the map with ease and located the poppy

mountain.

The

policeman looked at his phone that was working by itself and swore loudly in his

mind. He leaned tightly against the back of his chair and began to shiver. His throat

was so tight that he couldn’t make a sound.

Zhou

Nan didn’t care about the police who was almost scared to death, took the pen

and paper and started writing, “Go check this place; there are illegal

acts here.”

After

writing, Zhou Nan looked up and found the policeman had collapsed on the chair,

trembling uncontrollably.

“Sorry!

I didn’t mean to!” He hurriedly floated over to pinch the policeman’s philtrum,

“Hey, wake up!”

Things

were getting worse, and now Zhou Nan wanted to call the police and an ambulance together.

Fortunately,

the clerk

came back in a few seconds and saw the unconscious policeman. He rushed over and Zhou Nan quickly gave him the way.

The

clerk gently slapped the policeman’s face, “Alas! You were alone for  just a

few minutes. Were you so scared?”

If

he was alone, he would be fine. But he was not.

Zhou

Nan poked out his head and looked guilty.

Soon,

the clerk’s physical therapy awakened the policeman, although his face had been

red and swollen. The policeman opened his eyes and pointed to his phone,

trembling. The clerk looked over and noticed the paper. He picked it up and

read carefully, frowning.

Zhou

Nan felt there was no need to stay since he had completed the task. He

turned around and floated back to the inn for Chen Ming.
