I had hoped
you wouldn't realize that the voice
shouting your name
was mine
as you walked into the store. It wasn't me, trust me.
The voice you heard was a mistake,
as I believe it to be.
As I wish it to be.And isn't that what the adults always say?
If you wish on a star,
your wish will come true.
Well, I'm wishing
and I'm praying,
so will my wish come true?Because
I did shout your name,
sprinting through the crowd of shoppers,
screaming so loud
I nursed my throat on cough drops
for the rest of the day.Because
as soon as you left my lips,
I regretted it.More than any embarrassing dare I had done
at any stupid birthday party or sleepover. And so I wished upon a star,
praying
that you wouldn't walk up to me
at school tomorrow,
forcing myself
to feign a face emotion
and hurriedly exclaim
'it was a mistake'
So will my wish come true?I guess not,
since here you are in front of meAnd here I am, hurriedly exclaiming
"It was a mistake!"
