I have forgotten you,
you and your beautiful way
of saying just how much you love me.
I have forgotten you,
our love story slowly burning
from the top of the page down,
and I am too illiterate
to try and read fast enough.
I had hoped that I would miss you when you left,
because I remember my tear-stained robe
as I watched you pull out of our once-shared driveway.
But now,
I can't even remember your favorite band.
And I remember the face on your mother
when I had told her we had split,
because you had neglected to do so.I guess Hawaii was just too much of a paradise for you to return to your damned reality.
And I remember the life you left me with.
A life of free smiles and suffocating laughter.
And just how happy I was when I came home
and you weren't there.
I don't miss you.
At all.
And instead of memorializing my lost years
I just forgot it all.
