Sleep

"Hi." I choke back, happy that he's awake.

"How are you feeling?" I feel like that's a very dumb question but I need to know.

"Sore. As if I haven't moved an inch for a long time." he whispers, not yet quite well.

"Do you remember anything that happened?"

"No. I only remember the colour red. What happened?"

"There was a fire. You and me were trapped inside. Then there was an explosion, you fell unconcious. I-, I didn't know what to do. I brought you to my place and tried to take care of you, I-." I can feel the tears threatening to fall again.

"Thank you." he whispers again, that smile of his never leaving his lips.

After a few more questions I get back to work, getting him water and something very easy to eat so it wouldn't upset his stomach, as his body wouldn't be used to solid food.

I help him sit up and feed him whatever he asks for.

He's already looking really good, he's almost back to normal.

The machines shows that, even though he was basically in a coma for three weeks, all of his organs and such work normally, and he shouldn't have any complications healing. Especially now that he's awake.

Heck, he could go home tomorrow or the day after, depending on how well his legs'll carry him.

I really want to jump on him and give him a big hug but that could hurt him still.

I get up to take the plate away, reaching towards the table to pick it up but a hand on my wrist stops me.
Then it tugs me towards it's owner, and I let it.

I sit on the edge of the bed as Tadashi wraps his arms around me.

"I'm glad that you are okay." he softly breathes into my hair.

That makes me laugh.

"That should be my line, idiot." I grin at him, even though he does not see it.

"There's the laugh I love. I feel like I haven't heard it in an eternity." he chuckles.

That makes my face heat up.

He loves my laugh?

Must've meant it in a friendly way.

"Haven't had the time to laugh when my best friend is at the edge of dying, thank you very much." I fill my cheeks with air, pouting.

He laughs at that and kisses the top of my head.

"I'm sorry about that. But you won't get rid of me that easily!"

Yes.

He'll be fine.

I smile.

That's all I can do right now. Smile.

I'm just so happy.

I know I said I'll take care of him, but the weeks of not resting is finally taking it's toll on me, now that Tadashi is awake and hearing the steady rythm of his hear beat, I feel my eyes getting heavier.

But I fight the urge to fall asleep.

Not now.

Not when Tadashi just woke up.

I can't.

He must have noticed my fight against sleep because he speaks up.

"It's okay, rest for a while. I'll be here when you wake up. You must be tired from everything that happened." his quiet voice keeps inviting me to the warm hug of sleep, but in the end, what finally tips me over the edge is his gentle fingers running through my hair and his lips giving soft kisses to the top of my head.
