The Experiment

Chapter 3

"Are they asleep yet?"

I check on the humans and nod "Out like a light, Mother."

She nods and we crawl on top if the humans desk. We climb up to the vent.

"How do we open it?"

She smirks and licks a paw before getting her claws out and yanking. The noise it makes is loud.

"He's waking up!"

She has a worried look on her face as she jumps up into the vent. "Quickly!"

The human stands up and runs over. "Get back here!"

I am frozen in place and the human has nearly caught me but mother yanks me up by the scruff of my neck just before I am snatched by the human.

"Run!" she yells. We shoot down the vent.

"Are you sure you know the way out?"

"Yes."

I follow her slightly slower but we manage to make it to the end where it drops down. I skid to a stop but mother leaps down.

"Just jump! You'll be fine!"

I timidly jump down and land with a small amount of pain in my legs.

"Quickly!" She dashes over to a tree and climbs up. "Use your claws to dig in and push yourself up."

I manage to get up and huddle close to mother. "What do we do now?"

"We need to get to the next human town then find out what they did to you."

"Mother, what do you mean?"

"See the lights all around us?"

"Yes"

"This is a human townWe need to get to the next one. And as for what they did to you. You have no father because you were implanted with something inside me. I do not know what this means but you, my dear, are going to be very powerful."

"Mother..."

"Do not fear, love. We will stay here for a while then we begin to move tomorrow night. Once we get to the next human town, we will find out what they did to you."

I nod. This is getting worse by the minute. But the real question is What did they do to me? What am I?
