Violet feels empty inside.

School has been difficult with everyone whispering about her being Robby's girlfriend, which has only gotten worse since he was arrested. So she hasn't been able to focus much in school, her mind always wandering back to that day.

Understandably, Robby had changed a lot over that two weeks he was missing on his own. Violet can only imagine the things he had seen and what he had to do to find food and shelter. She saw how far away and sad he was and fears for how being in juvie could change him more.

Sam invited Violet to go to the hospital with her to visit Miguel, and she accepted. She hopes it will make her feel at least a little better, since it was her boyfriend that kicked him over the balcony.

They approach Miguel's room and stand in the doorway, and Violet's heart sinks when she sees Miguel in the hospital bed. He's sitting up and looks fine, but just knowing it was Robby who put him there was enough.

"Hey." Sam speaks up, getting his attention.

Miguel looks over, surprised to see them. "Hey."

"I hope it's okay, us just showing up like this." Sam says awkwardly. "How are you?"

Violet cringes at the look on Miguel's face towards the question.

"I mean...sorry, that was a stupid question." Sam shakes her head.

"I-I'm sorry about everything that happened." Violet adds, nervously fidgeting her hands.

"It's okay. It wasn't your fault." Miguel assures, taking a deep breath. "I have a surgery on Friday. Some doctor from out of state who supposedly works miracles."

"That's great, right?" Sam's face lights up.

"I'm not getting my hopes up. The surgery costs a ton and my mom's gonna be in debt. And there's no guarantee it'll work, but." Miguel shrugs.

"I think if anyone can beat the odds, it's you." Sam smiles.

Miguel notices Sam and Violet's matching scars. "Are those from Tory?"

"Yeah, they're really not that bad." Violet crosses her other leg over to cover it, suddenly wishing she had worn pants so Miguel wouldn't have seen it.

"It kinda makes us look tough." Sam says, trying to lighten the mood.

Miguel's face falls. "I'm sorry about that, guys."
