"So, I was wondering, if I don't actually go to school, will it still suck?" Rebecca questioned, twirling a chocolate brown curl in her fingers as she watched her brother rush around the kitchen, desperately trying to find something to eat.
"Yes, but unfortunately for you, you're coming whether you like it or not!" Scott replied, grinning triumphtly as he found a banana at the bottom of the fruit bowl. Biting into it, he began to nod in thought. "Although, it's going to suck even more for you because we have to leave even earlier for lacrosse."
"Ugh, don't speak with a mouth full of food! What's wrong with you?" Rebecca demanded, looking at her brother in disgust. "Oh and trust me, I don't mind going earlier for lacrosse, apparently that's the sport all the hot guys play."
"On second thought, why don't you stay here and Stiles will come pick you up after lacrosse?"
"Not a chance, but nice try." The younger brunette smirked, her smirk widening as she heard Stiles beep from outside. "Goodbye, darling brother. I will see you at lacrosse!"
"Remember to play nicely with others, Becs!" Scott called out after her, softly shaking his head as he heard the door close gently behind her.
Rebecca made a beeline for the beautiful powder blue Jeep parked in her driveway, grinning as she saw Stiles sitting in the front seat, smiling brightly at her.
"Hey, Stiles!"
"Good morning, Becca. Hope you don't mind coming earlier for lacrosse?" Stiles asked, backing out of the McCall driveway.
"Not at all, quite looking forward to it actually. Hey, do you mind if I ask you a question?"
"Uh, yeah, sure. A-anything." Stiles stuttered, glancing unsurely towards Rebecca as he began to drum nervously on the steering wheel.
"Why does Scott ride to school?" Rebecca questioned, curiously observing her old best friend's odd behaviour.
"Something about it being good for lacrosse, you know fitness and whatnot." he rambled, blinking a couple of times, praying he sounded believable.
"Won't he be late?"
"Nah, probably not."
"Probably not?"
"Yeah, like- he- uh, he is really fit. Fitness freak, actually, almost like he is super-human. Unbelievable." Stiles lied, hoping that Rebecca deemed his explanation plausible.
"Really? That doesn't seem very Scott-like.."
"Yeah, well, you haven't been around lately so you wouldn't really know. Oh, what do you know? We're here already! I gotta go meet Coach before lacrosse, will you be fine by yourself?" Stiles rushed, already getting out of his Jeep, trying to get as far away from Rebecca as he could. Even with years apart, he knew she would still be able to tell when he was lying, she always could.
"Uh, yeah sure. I'll go grab my schedule and then head down to the stands to watch practice. Thanks for the ride," Confused, she followed Stiles' lead and got out of the Jeep, heading towards the school building.
"No worries, Becca. It's really good to have you back." Stiles called after her, smiling genuinely. Sure, it was going to make everything 10x more complicated with Rebecca not knowing, but he was honestly glad to have her back, nothing was the same without her.
"It's good to be back, Stiles."
Rebecca could tell something was off from the second she began to inquire about Scott, Stiles had a tell and whenever he lied, she knew. Yet, she couldn't figure out why he was lying to her about Scott riding to school, why was that some big secret?
