Rebecca and Derek had been floating in the pool for hours and Rebecca was finally beginning to regain feeling and control of her limbs. Not a word had been said between the two since Derek's confession, but there was no tension in the air, just tiredness and a tinge of fear as the lizard-like creature stalked the edge of the pool.
"Okay, I think I'm good now." Rebecca whispered, pushing away from Derek.
"Thank, God." The alpha mumbled, easily swimming over to the edge as Rebecca followed his lead. "Maybe you should just stay here? At least then I'll know you're safe."
"Not a chance. If you think I'll willingly let you fight to protect me, you better think again." The brunette replied, struggling to pull herself out of the pool as her body still felt weak, certainly not backing up her argument.
"Rebecca, you've only just pulled out of the paralysis, maybe it's best if you just sit this one out." Derek tried again, gently attempting to push her back into the pool, but she only shrugged him off and let her shaky arms pull her up. Slowly, the strange animal of sorts began to approach them.
"What's our plan of attack?"
"Um?"
"Ugh, okay, I'm gonna try to distract it with it's own reflection while you think of how to take it down. Understood?" Rebecca ordered, giving Derek a curt nod before pulling a compact mirror from her pocket and roughly aiming it towards the approaching reptile. Cautiously, she stepped towards the forthcoming creature trying to get in better position, hoping that it's own reflection would distract the thing long enough for Derek to devise a plan. "I'm not sure this is gonna work, so for God's sake, Derek, think fast." Rebecca whispered, her eyes never leaving the reptile in front of her.
Suddenly, it caught sight of the mirror and completely stopped. The lizard staring at it's reflection in confusion before rushing off, leaving both Derek and Rebecca in complete shock.
"What even made you think to do that?"
"I think I saw a documentary sometime about a certain animal that gets confused by it's reflection, I was just hoping like crazy it would work on whatever that was." Rebecca answered, a grin of relief stretching out across her face. "I'm actually really tired, do you think you could give me a ride home? I think Stiles and Lydia would have left by now."
"Yeah, of course." He said, smiling back at the brunette as they pulled on the door. "It's locked."
"I guess that explains why no one came in looking for me."
'Yeah, I suppose it does. Don't you have a key in your pocket?" Derek asked, referring to the key that had been clasped tightly in her hand when she first walked into the pool room. "Or we could stay in here and make out, so no one can interrupt us?"
"What makes you think I want to make out with you?"
"Your insanely fast heartbeat." Derek quickly quipped back, a boyish smirk present on his face. Rebecca awkwardly laughed back lightly before playfully pushing Derek away and unlocking the door.
"Lets, uh, lets just go." She muttered, the cold air causing her to shiver slightly as she walked outside, pausing when she saw Stiles' Jeep still in the parking lot. Familiar shouts made Rebecca turn around where she was met with Scott and Stiles screaming angrily at her.
"Where the hell have you been?!"
"Well, it's kinda a long story.." Rebecca trailed off as Derek walked up to the three and quickly explained. By the time Derek was finished, Scott and Stiles had both enveloped her in a tight hug.
"Come on, Becs, I think you'll be needing a hot shower and a good nights sleep." Stiles said, pulling the girl towards his car as Scott gave Derek a grateful smile.
