“you're here again?” sunoo asked in disbelief when he saw ni-ki entered his hospital room.
you see, it has been 7 months since ni-ki and his friends knew about his condition. instead of getting a lot better, it's the opposite. the doctor said that they have to ready their selves for the possibility.
and ni-ki wanted to be selfish. he doesn't want his sunoo hyung to be gone but they don't have a choice. they need to accept this, sooner or later.
ni-ki then decided that he and his friends will be the one to take care of him. this is the only way to spend more time with him before he.. you already know that.
“how are you feeling?” he asked as he sat down on a chair, hold his left hand and kissed it.
sunoo giggled. “you've been asking me the same question everyday, every month, nishimura riki”
ni-ki faintly smiled. he loves to hear his voice, his laugh every now and then. because he knew that this won't last long. he won't last long.
a tear escaped his eye and was followed by another and another until he cried. he hugged sunoo's thin body tightly.
“hyung.. please.. don't leave me.. please don't be gone.. please.. please.. please..” he cried, begging.
sunoo covered his mouth with his both hands, stopping himself from crying. he can't bare seeing ni-ki being vulnerable and weak like this.
he wanted to be okay — with no sickness and pain bearing. he wanted to be with his mother, his friends and.. ni-ki.
and seeing ni-ki, crying, begging, almost praying not to leave him broke his heart.
he wanted to stay but he knew he can't. soon enough, he will leave everything here — his friends, mother and ni-ki — the love of his life.
that's why, when they were younger, the reason why sunoo left him was because of his sickness. he can't say this to ni-ki before since he was still a little kid back then.
he knew that it'll hurt ni-ki if he leave without a word, but, it'll hurt ni-ki even more when he found out that his sunoo hyung is sick and his sickness doesn't have a cure at all.
and now, his nightmare came back. they thought he was okay now when sunoo suddenly felt ill and he was confined for three days. the doctor soon announced that his sickness is back. his acute myeloid leukemia is back.
that's why he broke up with ni-ki. he don't want ni-ki to know about this. it's better if he will be gone without a word. in that way, ni-ki will move on.
when ni-ki knew about this, he got mad at sunoo saying that he doesn't have to lie. he will stay with sunoo no matter what. long story short, ni-ki didn't talk to sunoo for three consecutive days 'til he can't bare it anymore. well, he just loves his sunoo hyung that much.
sunoo gently combed ni-ki's hair and kissed it before whispering, “i love you.”
ni-ki smiled and kissed him softly on the lips before saying, “i love you too.”
silence engulfed them after that. ni-ki was laying beside sunoo on the bed while sunoo was hugging ni-ki, his head on his chest.
seconds after, sunoo broke the silence. “ni-ki,”
“hm?”
“if i die, please take care of my mother for me.”
ni-ki froze. his hand balled to fist. “don't say that”
he said with a firm and cold voice that sunoo hasn't heard before.
sunoo only smiled. he knew that any moment from now, he will leave his mother, friends and ni-ki.
now, all he could ever think of was his mother. if he die, who will take care of her? of course, it'll be ni-ki.
“promise me, ni-ki” he said with a firm voice also. ni-ki's eyes starts to blur as the tears was now slowly forming.
he can't and he won't accept the fact that his sunoo hyung was saying such things. that he already accepted his fate. but, he knew that he's being unfair and selfish. even if it'll wreck him, he has to. he needs to.
“i promise.”
and in that night, all they ever did was cuddling, giving each other soft kisses until sunoo told ni-ki that he's tired and wanted to rest.
and before sunoo closed his eyes, he whispered to his ear,
“in the field of thousands of daisies, i met you. thank you, ni-ki. thank you for loving a unique daisy like me. 'til we meet again, i love you”
as sunoo's hug loosened, ni-ki kissed him one last time.
“rest well and i love you too, my love”
