TW - injury/blood, panic attack

That night, Sirius lay in bed for hours, not being able to sleep. He couldn't push all his thoughts from his head, so he let the thoughts run through his head as he listened to Peter's soft snoring, James muttering occasionally, and Remus rolling over in his sleep.

He couldn't help but blame himself for everything that had happened that summer, but he knew that thinking about it all the time made him quiet, and then his friends felt they had to be cautious around him, so he couldn't think about it. He wanted everything to be normal this year.

Eventually Sirius drifted off to sleep, but he slept uneasily, and kept waking up in pools of his own sweat, after dreaming of his Mother, and what she did to him.

At about 6AM, he heard feet softly pattering around the dorm. Remus. He could smell his cup of tea, and no-one would wake up this early other than him. He could hear him flicking through parchment and trying to memorise his timetable for that day.

The fact Remus was awake was enough to get Sirius up, so he opened his eyes and swung the covers off of his legs. He sat up on the side of the bed, dizzy, and sat until the room stopped spinning, and then stood up. It was dark, Remus had lit a candle, but only a small one, and only a little light was streaming through the gap in the crimson curtains.

Remus didn't hear Sirius wake up, it was only when Sirius, not being able to see anything, stubbed his toe on James' bed frame, and then, hopping in pain, banged his head on the posts, and then came tumbling down onto the floor.

"FUCK!" He yelled, clutching his head and toe. He moved the hand on his head and saw that he was dripping blood.

Everyone woke up, confused, and Remus had run the length of the room to check that Sirius was ok.

"MOONS I'M BLEEDING I THINK THIS IS THE END FOR ME!" Sirius screamed dramatically.

James threw the curtains open and morning light poured through. "Shut up Pads, before you wake the whole school. You'll be fine, although that does look nasty, you might want to go see Pomfrey." He said, getting out of bed. There was no point going back to sleep now.

Sirius looked on the verge of tears.

"Sirius, honestly you'll be fine. It's just a cut. Come on, I'll take you to Pomfrey, just to double check it. Get up." Remus said, holding a hand out to help Sirius up. Sirius took it, and the two plodded out of Gryffindor tower, down to the hospital wing. The corridors were empty as it was still early, so no-one saw them, both in pyjamas, both barefoot.

When they reached the hospital wing, Madam Pomfrey was just waking up and starting to prepare for the day. Remus knocked on the door three times, and it swung open.

"What on earth happened to you, it's 6AM on the first day back?" Madam Pomfrey cried exasperatedly. She knew at that point that this year, she'd be seeing an awful lot of them.

"I er- well, um, long story short, Sirius hit his head on the bed frame and it looks pretty deep and there was loads of blood." Remus told her, half carrying Sirius. Remus looked down at him and couldn't work out if the expression on Sirius' face was him being dramatic, as per usual, or if blood loss was actually getting to him more than he had thought. There had been quite a lot of blood.

"Very well then, bring him in," Madam Pomfrey said. Her face clearly told Remus that she thought Sirius was not being as dramatic as first thought.

Remus helped Sirius over to a bed where he flopped down, and lost consciousness. Remus felt his stomach sink. He knew Sirius would be fine, but the thought of him being here, passed out, on the first day back, after hitting his head on a bed frame made him panic.
