Remus was pushing through the crowd of muggles. Sirius was there. He could hear him shouting, he just needed to get to him, calm him down, before he did something stupid. They could deal with Peter later. He couldn't see what was going on, only shouting and insane laughing.
"How could you Sirius! They were your friends!" Peter shouted for the whole street to hear, whimpering. Sirius laughed manically. Remus' stomach dropped.
He finally reached the front of the crowd. Sirius had Peter pinned to a lamp-post, wand drawn at him. Remus took a step forward, ready to break this up, get Sirius off Peter, but it all happened too quickly.
In the blink of an eye, Peter drew his wand out of his pocket, smiled at Sirius, and blew the street apart. Muggles were now screaming, running all over the place. Some were laying dead on the floor, others standing back, shielding loved ones.
Remus was knocked back in the explosion. He could feel everything aching, see the blood spilling from his head, yet he stood up and starting running towards where he hoped Sirius and Peter were still stood. He tripped over something.
"Remus! I didn't- I would never- please help me. He's- we need to-" Sirius couldn't form a coherent sentence. Remus fell onto his knees, where Sirius was laying on the floor, and grabbed his arm.
"Come on, we'll go home. It's ok. It will be ok." Remus assured him, trying to keep his voice sounding calm. "Where's Peter?"
"He's gone. He-"
"Get back!" Came a yell from somewhere around them. They both looked up. The ministry. The ministry of magic were here.
Remus panicked as he realised what this would look like. Peter was gone, leaving Sirius sat in the rubble of the street, with corpses around him.
Remus stood up and grabbed Sirius' arm, pulling him up. The Aurors walked slowly toward them, wands pointed. The one infront shouted.
"Black! Stay where you are! Don't move!" The Auror turned to Remus, "You! Get back! He's dangerous."
Remus stood, shocked.
"He's not, it was-"
"I SAID GET BACK!" Shouted the Auror.
Remus jumped backwards, leaving Sirius facing the Auror.
"Sirius Orion Black, you are now under arrest, anything you say can and will be used against you, you will be held in Azkaban to await trial." The Auror said, calmly, as he cast a binding spell on him.
Sirius glanced back at Remus, heartbroken, scared and longing, but unwilling to speak.
Another figure emerged into the scene.
"I don't think that will be necessary. Look at the evidence. He's sat here in the middle of a street, blown to smithereens, having killed a dozen muggles, and a wizard, and he betrayed Lily and James Potter. What more do you want from him. If it hadn't been for Pettigrew, it might've taken us weeks to find the traitor. He who must not be named is dead, Black. Your master is dead. You killed Pettigrew. You are just like the rest of your family." Barty Crouch said.
Remus stepped forward again, crying now.
"No you can't send him to Azkaban without a trial. That's against the policy. He gets a fair trial."
"You see Mr-?"
"Lupin."
"Mr Lupin, this policy was changed three weeks ago, upon discovering the deaths of the McKinnons." Crouch continued, mercilessly.
The Aurors began to move now, ready to take Sirius away.
"No you can't! He's not fucking guilty! You've got the wrong bloke!" Remus cried, forgetting all dignity. He couldn't loose Sirius. Not Sirius. Not after this. James and Lily were gone. Peter, who knows what happened to him, but fuck him, and Sirius was being sent to Azkaban without a trial.
They ignored Remus.
"Bullshit. Fucking bullshit." Remus said, angrily, kicking a postbox that was lying on the floor, the bright red paint chipped.
He walked away from the ministry members, and disapperated.
(I wrote this a while ago because I had gotten bored of writing school chapters, and I was saving it mostly for the ideas when I got to that point in the book, but have it now, same with the next chapter)
