It's already morning and everyone is awake. Nam-ra is sitting next to Hye-ji, holding her hand. Their attention was diverted to Dae-su when he groaned in pain. But Hye-ji kept her eyes straight. "Stay still." Wu-jin told him.
Just then, On-jo stood up and looked at their school, getting Hye-ji's attention. Hye-ji also stood up, but Nam-ra didn't let go of her hand, so Nam-ra just came with her to On-jo. She stood next to On-jo and putting a comforting hand on her shoulder. Seconds later, Su-hyeok and Cheong-san stood next to the three.
"Let's go, Ji-ji-ah, Nam-ra." Su-hyeok told the two, the same time Cheong-san told On-jo "Let's go."
"I can't just go like this." On-jo said, turning to the four. "I'm sorry. Can you wait a bit?" She added and was about to walk but stopped. "Oh, nevermind. Go ahead. I'll catch up." She said.
Hye-ji then faced the three. "I'll go with her." She said and was about to walk but Nam-ra pulled her hand. "I'm coming with you." She said before following On-jo, pulling Hye-ji with her.
"I'll go too." Dae-su told the others. "No. You hurt your leg. Wu-jin, look after Dae-su." Su-hyeok said before following the three together with Cheong-san.
When they reached the building, Hye-ji took a deep breath before stepping a foot inside the building. "Are you sure you want to do this? We can stay outside if you want." Nam-ra.
"I'm okay, Nam-ra. Let's go." She said, she did not even smile at Nam-ra, which bothered the class president, but she knows that Hye-ji is going through a lot right now. They continued walking until they reached the top floor.
"Hyun-jin!" On-jo called, hoping to get an answer. The group continued to look around, hoping to see any trace of the student council president, but they can't see any.
"Hwang Hyun-jin!" On-jo called again, tears threatening to fall. Nam-ra looked at Hye-ji. The female Hwang just remained with a straight face.
"Hwang Hyun-jin, you jerk!" On-jo shouted. Nam-ra looked at the female Hwang first before walking towards On-jo. "Let's go." She told the crying girl, but On-jo just looked at her.
"Let's go. I don't smell anything. There's no one here." Hye-ji said before turning her back and started walking to the stairs. With how the female Hwang is acting, the two girls teared up more. It's not just Hyun-jin they lost. It feels like they lost Hye-ji as well.
"Let's say bye to Hyun-jin...and leave." Nam-ra said, hugging the girl. Cheong-san watched the two, while Su-hyeok followed Hye-ji downstairs. When the female Hwang reached the ground floor of the building, she supported herself up using the wall, but failed as she melted on the floor.
Su-hyeok watched her break, feeling his heart break at the scene in front of him. He slowly walked towards her, tears falling from his eyes.
"Ji-ji-ah. Just let it out. Let it all out." He said as he pulled Hye-ji against his chest. Cheong-san, Nam-ra and On-jo saw the scene in front of them. Ever since the last time they saw Hyun-jin, the girl has not shown any emotion, so seeing her break like this made the three want to cry.
"Hyun-jin!" She screamed, you can hear the pain in her voice, which is very understandable. She lost her twin. Her bestfriend. The one who has always been there for her. The one who supported her with every decision she made. The one who knows her the best. The one who literally saved his life. The one she shared their mother's womb with for 9 months. It was like she lost half of herself, along with losing Hyun-jin.
"I can't do it without him. I can't live without him. Please just end me. Just let me go." She said. Her voice was soft, almost not hearable, but the other heard it. And it hurts. It hurts to see someone who always give people smile on their faces like this. It hurts to see the one who always give them hope, lose her own hope.
After Hye-ji calmed down, Su-hyeok spoke. "I know it's a lot. I know you're suffering. But we need you right now. We need each other. So please...please don't give up. We can't lose you, too Hye-ji."
-------
When the five students came back, they first took notice of Hye-ji's swollen eyes from crying and her straight face. They allowed the five to rest first before they continued on their way out of the mountain. Mi-jin and Ha-ri led the way while at the back was Su-hyeok and Cheong-san who is carrying Dae-su.
"The soldiers saw us at school. They left us there without helping us. Then they bombed it. Maybe they want us to die." Nam-ra said as she walked with On-jo and Hye-ji. "That can't be it." On-jo told her.
"I think it's because of me, or species like me, half-bie." Hye-ji stated, speaking for the first time since what happened at the construction site.
"Because we were with zombies, they must think we're neither zombies nor humans, like me. Maybe that's what they thought." She added. Nam-ra held her hand, looking at her.
"Don't say that." Nam-ra told Hye-ji. "Is it okay for me to stay with you guys like this?" Hye-ji asked the two. "You're still our friend. And for some of us, you are family. We couldn't have made it this far without you." On-jo told her.
"Still..." She mumbled. "You haven't turned, and you never will." Nam-ra told her, tightening her grip on the Hwang's hand. Hye-ji then turned to Nam-ra, looking at the class president's eye for the first time wince what happened to Hyun-jin.
"Just remember your promise to me." She told Nam-ra. Nam-ra looked away, trying to hide the tears forming in her eyes. She then decided to change the conversation.
"Let's do that again later." She started, with a small smile, looking at Hye-ji as well. "It was my first time sitting around a fire with friends We'll be able to do that again, right?" She asked as her smile slowly fades, as she started to look down.
"Let's do it tonight." On-jo told the class president with a smile. "Yes, Nam-ra. We'll do it again." Hye-ji also said, Nam-ra didn't expect her to answer so she looked at Hye-ji, what shocked her more is the genuine smile on Hye-ji's face, making her smile as well, nodding slowly.
Their attention was caught by Mi-jin. "What the hell?"
"What's wrong?" Hyo-ryeong asked the seniors who was leading them. "Shit. I think we're lost." Mi-jin told the group. "There's no trail?" Hyo-ryeong asked.
"There hasn't been a trail in a while. I feel like we're going in circles." Mi-jin answered. "Why did you come this way if there was no trail? We might end up back at Hyosan." Dae-su asked, feeling the need to question every move Mi-jin make, still thinking that it's Mi-jin's fault Joon-young died.
Something then caught Wu-jin's eyes. "Noona." He called his sister. "Look." He continued after getting the attention, pointing at something, a gold ribbon tied at a branch of a tree.
Ha-ri lead the way towards the tree where the ribbon was tied. "It was tied here." Ha-ri stated, looking at the golr ribbon. "Who did something so nice? Maybe a ginseng digger?" Mi-jin said with a smile but Ha-ri just looked at her, making her straighten her face.
"What's that?" Hyo-ryeong asked but Mi-jin just smiled at her. Ha-ri then looked around, looking for another ribbon.
"I see another one." She said after seeing another. While climbing down the mountain, On-jo saw something. Dae-su, Su-hyeok, and Cheong-san watched as On-jo went towards something, the flashlight.
With the sound of On-jo crying, Hye-ji looked around to look for On-jo. She quickly made her way towards the girl. She didn't say anything but she just put her hand on On-jo's shoulder, letting her feel that she is not alone.
On-jo faced the female Hwang, falling in her arms as she clings on Hye-ji as she cried. Hye-ji started to soothe her hair. "It will be okay soon, On-jo-ah. We will be okay, soon." She whispered to the girl letting her cry on her arms.
