Harry and Hermione peered up at the security cameras, frowning, while Ron looked at them in confusion.

"Why do you think they have them?"  Harry asked tentatively, head tilting towards Hermione.

"Probably because of all the events of last year... I guess they want to make it safer, especially for the returning Eighth Years," Hermione said, glancing at Harry before returning her gaze to the camera. The little red light winked back down at them, letting them know it saw them too.

"What is it?" Ron asked, looking both amazed and slightly afraid of the strange muggle device.

"It's a security camera," Hermione began, adopting her natural explanatory tone, "it records us and anyone who passes by it, which goes back to a monitor or screen that shows all the places security cameras are placed. It's probably so they have someone watching to make sure nothing suspicious is going on. Or so they can look at the feed later if they suspect something happened." Ron looked at Hermione, dumbfounded, clearly not having been helped at all by her explanation.

Before Ron had time to ask any questions, Harry cut in, having been zoned out in his own contemplative world.
"But how are they here? I thought electronic and muggle devices didn't work because of the magic and the wards?"

Hermione looked to him, surprised, as though such an intuitive question had caught her off guard coming from him. Then she glanced up at the camera thoughtfully.

"Well, maybe they took down the wards or spells against electronics? Or they're special, magically altered cameras, or..." she broke off, brows furrowed. "I'm not entirely sure, Harry. You'd have to ask McGonagall."

They thought about that for a moment, before they heard a silky voice behind them.
"You should bring your father here, Weasley."

Ron whirled around, caught by surprise both by the sudden voice and the mention of his father.

"Excuse me, Malfoy?" Ron asked, voice harsh and accusatory. They'd barely interacted with Malfoy since they'd returned there, though it'd only been a few days so it was understandable.

"I'm just saying, I know your father loves muggle inventions and such, and muggle and magic intertwined for a security system seems like a highly interesting topic for such a man." Malfoy said calmly, trying his best to give off the air that he really wasn't here for harm, so as not to upset Ron.

Unfortunately, Ron wasn't the best at reading body language.

"How did you know that about my dad??"

Malfoy sighed.
"I must admit, however regretfully, that in the past I've heard my father talk about yours, about how enamored your father is with muggle things. He- may have used some harsher words. I disagree with him, I share Mr. Weasley's fascination with muggle contraptions."

Ron looked floundered, by Malfoy's honesty and admittance to the liking of muggles. That's when Harry came in.

"Wait, Malfoy- I thought you hated muggles." Harry said, or rather, asked, a tone of question at the end of his curious statement.

"Well, that was my father's belief. I truly do find it fascinating how they've managed to make such incredible things. Really- we use magic for such ordinary, day-to-day things, and they've managed so much, so much innovation and ease purely through evolution, no assistance from magic. I don't, nor have I ever held my father's beliefs, I simply used to have to comply with them." Malfoy paused, darting his eyes over the Golden Trio as they stared at him in surprise.
