Draco peered up at the branches, blades of sun poking through to his eyes. The leaves crunched underneath his feet, freshly fallen from autumn.

The trees were swaying slightly in the wind, a brisk chill that reminded you it was mid-fall. Draco didn't mind it, though; with a thick enough jumper and a strong enough will to escape other people, walking in the cold wasn't so bad. The leaves all created a sea of color on the forest floor, the few that hadn't fallen yet clinging desperately to their branches in the ire of the wind.

He continued walking along, going to a place he liked; a little clearing full of moss-covered trees and pretty, vibrant grass, with a nice little stump for sitting and reading. Then, he heard a snap, a twig broken as someone or something else approached. He cautiously began to walk around the bushes, slipping his wand out of his pocket and into his palm, just in case.

But, to no avail, because what approached him was no threat, not that he could see.

Harry needed to get away from all these people.

Every day, when he walked the halls, people would gawk and whisper, as they always had, and now he couldn't make it anywhere outside his dorm or the Room of Requirement with at least ten people asking for his autograph. People held him up on a pedestal, one far too high for the amount of help he'd had along his journey, and for the amount of people who'd died for him. But they didn't see that, they just saw the great Harry Potter, the Savior, the Chosen One, the one who, alone, had defeated the Dark Lord and now needed to be stared at everywhere he went.

He had to get away, and so he'd went for a walk that day.

But it was before that, over the summer, when he'd found a nice way to be out and about, at least in the forest, without being hounded. He'd become an animagus, like his father. It was partly to avoid the fame and partly to honor his father, and partly because he felt so broken after the war he needed something to do.

So, done something he had.

It was pretty nice, actually. He could just go wandering out in the forest, and even if people were on a walk along trails, they stared and whispered, sure, but only because he was a fucking stag, not because he and everything about his life was on display in a museum, for all to stare at.

So he'd gone out on a walk in the Forbidden Forest, and had been wandering around when he heard leaves under someone's feet. He approached cautiously, though he knew he wasn't in much danger because he was, well, a stag, but it was still a reflex after the war.

What he didn't expect was to walk around and find Draco Malfoy, bundled up in a jumper and a warm-looking sweater, staring at Harry reverently as the blonde halted to a stop.

Harry just stood there for a moment too, staring back at the blonde creature just as it stared at him.

Now, Harry realized that Malfoy wasn't staring at him reverently, rather the magnificent stag he'd happened upon in the forest. Something in Harry's stomach twinged at that, almost as though he wanted Malfoy to stare at him like that. But he brushed that aside, realizing he should probably try to act like an animal.

He wasn't sure what to do in this situation, usually people spotted him, stared, and walked away not too long after. But Malfoy, Draco, well, he didn't know. Malfoy seemed to be planted firmly to the spot. Harry supposed as long as he didn't wave at Malfoy, which he didn't do as a human anyways, he could probably pass as an unsuspicious animal.
