The transformation Kathy was going through was intense and her depression was getting deeper and deeper as the weeks dragged on. Capable of only getting up to eat and shower on occasion Kathy had no strength left and was beginning to drown in her clothing. At night she would try to muffle her sobs with her pillow but even then her sister, Samantha, could hear through the walls.
Not being able to tell her sister the truth about Nathan's sudden absence, was tearing Samantha apart. Many times she would walk down the hall and prepare herself to tell Kathy the truth, but then she would quickly changed her mind afraid the truth would hurt her even more. She wasn't sure what to do, but every morning before leaving to school Samantha would leave Kathy some food on her dark wooded dresser. Samantha never lost hope that her sister would one day just get out of bed and feel a little better than the day before. All she wanted was for Kathy to find a bit of her old strength.
Mandy pretended to be oblivious to Kathy's sobs and dramatic weight loss. She wouldn't even blink an eye at Kathy's lousy appearance when she would seldom come and eat breakfast. She was heartless but at least she wasn't as bad as her husband.
Nothing about Bart Rochelle said warm and friendly from his icy blue eyes, that could cut deep and chill you to your core, to his venomous smile. He couldn't possibly be any more overjoyed with the fact that Nathan was finally gone. He's daughters now permanent tears didn't make him feel remorseful at all.
"Robyn what are you talking about?" Kathy looks at her best friend suspiciously.
"Nothing, forget I ever said anything it's not important." Robyn looks down at her shoulder length honey blonde hair twisting it in her fingers nervously.
For a second Kathy thinks about questioning her but then decides she doesn't want too, whatever her friend is hiding must be big since she thinks she has to lie to her.
Robyn sighs when she notices Kathy attention fade away as she stares blankly at her baby blue wall. Knowing its time for her to leave Robyn collects herself and leaves Kathy to her thoughts. "I'm so sorry for lying to you Kat." Robyn whispers.
"Katherine Lilly Renee Rochelle! Get out of bed, get that stupid no good for nothing boy out of your head, and do something useful with your life!" Bart yelled at his daughter in his dark raspy voice. He smiled his famous crooked smile, which was actually a joyous smile for him, for the first time in eight years because Nathan was gone.
Tired of how miserable Kathy was and how her parents were treating her Samantha spoke up. "Dad that is enough! Give it a rest will you, shouldn't you be satisfied with the fact that you made Nathan leave! Now you just have to ruin Kathy's life even more by being a huge jerk about it? What is your problem? You and mom are a bunch of heartless jerks threatening Nathan to stay away! Couldn't you see how happy he made her? Aren't you suppose to want to make your daughter happy! It's all your fault!" Samantha yelled her usually light brown eyes turned dark and they were clearly filled with anger.
"Girl you better close your mouth, I don't want your sister finding out."
"We did what was best," Mandy speaks up coming out of the kitchen her black hair tied up in a messy bun.
Samantha's pale face turns bright red, No you did what you thought was best. She was a perfect daughter, always doing what you asked of her. She didn't deserve this, why did you have to break her heart? Don't you love your daughter at all! You two are selfish and you deserve each other you make me sick!" Samantha venomously yells.
Samantha never saw it coming but she felt the sting of the slap, and the tears quickly ran to her eyes. "I hate you both."
