Broken Hearted

Chapter 7

A few weeks went by and even though Kathy was doing a little better, there was still a vacant look she would carry around. The only thing getting her out of bed in the morning was her job. She finally got a call from one of the best hospitals in her area, and after working there for a few months she can transfer to a hospital in Switzerland.

Nathan hasn't talked to anyone about his trip and where he went, he's been keeping as much distance as he can. The only person he's really spoken to is his best friend Mark, Robyn's brother, but he hasn't even told him the reason for dumping Kathy. The one person who knows the truth is threatening to ruin everything and Nathan feels its best just to let Kathy go instead of telling her the truth.

"Nate man, come on you have to tell me what's going on." Mark sits down next to Robyn, on Nathans brown couch.

"What is this, an intervention?" Nathans voice comes out tired and raspy, his appearance wasn't much better than Kathy's he had dark bags under his eyes from lack of sleep. And his his hair was a tangled mess that looked like he would frequently run his hands through it and tug it. His shoulders hunched down and he looked defeated sighing he drops his head in his hands. He's sitting on the smaller couch across from them and the black coffee table that still holds a picture of him and Kathy before she left to Switzerland. Their eyes and smiles are bright and full of happiness.

"Nathan please, we've given you enough time you have to tell us why you broke up with Kathy. You don't get how much you hurt her, just tell her why please I hate seeing how broken she is. Let her move on Nathan tell her you cheated." Robyn begs a distressed expression on her round face.

Nathans head shoots up and he scowls at Robyn angrily his eyes looked murderous, "Miah told you? Look Robyn like I told Miah I don't know if I cheated on her okay? But if you really want to tell Kathy something, then fine tell her I cheated." Nathan spits out his words his tone hostile, getting up quickly he opens his apartment door. "Get out, I don't want friends who don't trust me."

"You don't mean that, you know we're your friends Nathan we'll always support you. We're just trying to understand." Mark looks at Nathan sadly.

"I mean it Mark, get out and don't bother coming back." He sends Robyn a glare.

"Nathan calm down, look Robyn means well she's just trying to help Kathy move on can't you understand that." Mark gets up and heads over to his friend. Most people think that Mark and Nathan are related since they have a lot of similarities, which is funny because no one believes Mark and Robyn are siblings. Nathan and Mark both have dark hair and eyes, lean muscular bodies, and tanned skin from all the running and sports they play outside.

While Mark and Nathan continue to argue Robyn gets up from her spot on the couch and looks around Nathans apartment. She notices he hasn't taken down any of the picture containing Kathy, on his shelves that hold some books, decorations, and his flat screen TV Robyn notices a picture taken after Kathy got back from Switzerland. "It happened while she was in Switzerland didn't it?" Robyn turns back to look at the boys.

They both give her confused looks so she tries to explain the conclusion she has come across, "The reason why you broke up with Kathy, whatever happened it was while she was in Switzerland didn't it?"

Nathan sighs and looks up at the ceiling, "Yeah." He gently closes the door and walks to the kitchen getting a drink out of the fridge. "Do you guys want anything?" Nathan asks.

They both shake their head waiting to see if he'll tell them, they want to the kitchen counter and look at Nathan.

"After I dropped Kathy off at the airport I was depressed so I called the guys and told them we should go out. We went to get some food then we headed to a bar, I only had a few drinks at first but then I got totally wasted. The last thing I remember from that night is Manuel trying to get the waitress' number, the next morning I woke up next to some girl."

Robyn looks up at the ceiling not wanting Nathan to see the disgust in her eyes she bites her tongue trying to keep herself from saying anything waiting for him to continue, while Mark recalls the nights' events.

"I felt so guilty I knew that I had to tell Kathy but I just couldn't bring myself to do it. I was a selfish coward, a few weeks later the girl calls me and tells me she's pregnant. I start to freak out and I was about to call Kathy and tell her when I get a call telling me the girls in the hospital. When I get there she tells me she was in a car accident and that she lost the baby. I decided not to tell Kathy, and when I went to talk to Bart about marrying Kathy he said he knew about the baby and me cheating and he would tell Kathy unless I left."

"You have to tell Kathy." Is all Robyn says before she leaves the apartment a disappointment written all over her face.

"Nathan you didn't sleep with anyone." Mark tells him.

"Mark what are you talking about I just told you I was drunk I woke up next to a girl next thing I know she tells me she's pregnant, that confirms we slept together."

"Nate trust me on this you were so drunk that night you passed out at the bar, we brought you home. Trust me dude you were out there is no way you woke up and picked up some chick."

"Then how do you explain me waking up next to some girl? And getting her pregnant?"

Mark rubs his chin thoughtfully. "I'm not sure, but how do you know the baby was yours? Are you positive she was even pregnant?"

"Why would someone lie to some random guy about that?"

"They were paid to do it."

"But why would pay someone to trick me into believing I slept with a girl and got her pregnant, why would someone jeopardize my relationship with Kathy?"

"They don't want you two together."

"Who doesn't want me and Kathy together though?" Nathan's heart drops,  his eyes widen with the realization slapping his face.

Mark coming to the same conclusion looks at Nathan his tone fierce "Bart Rochelle and there's only two people that can tell us why, I have a feeling we need to go have a chat with Samantha." Mark grabs his jacket off the couch then looks back at a frozen Nathan whose trying to fit all the pieces together, "Nate you coming or what?"

"What? Oh yeah lets go." Nathan quickly gets his keys from the nail by the door and they head out.

Authors Note: Dun Dun Dun! Looks like a certain secret is about to come out...trust me this is going to blow your mind! Will be updating as soon as I can. I'm sorry I know I said that I would be done or almost done with this story by now but turns out my spring break wasn't fun and relaxing like I thought it would be. instead I was crazy busy but hopefully this chapter made up for it?
