Broken Hearted

Chapter 6

"Miah who is it?" Robyn asks.

Miah gives Robyn the, why'd you have to ask look, then looks down at her phone. "It's just Lauren." Miah lies, then walks out of the house. Lauren is Kathy and Samantha's cousin, she also has a sister, Rebekah.

"Nathaniel Andersen you have a lot of explaining to do. " Miah says in a low voice full of animosity. She runs her hands through her pixie cut dark brown hair while walking down the porch to her car, making sure that Kathy won't be able to hear.

"I know." Nathan sighs.

"Why are you calling me?" Miah asks curiously her voice softening a bit.

"I just...I don't know." Nathan sighs in a tired raspy voice.

"Are you going to tell me what happened between you and Kathy?"

"We broke up." Nathan answers in a dejected voice, his usually light honey sweet voice is gone.

"I know that Nathan, but why? Last time we spoke you said you were going to ask her to marry you. I know Kathy didn't break up with you because she's miserable."

"How is she?" Nathan completely ignores her questions just wanting to know how she's doing.

"She's miserable, I've never seen her like this. It's bad Nathan she's lost a lot of weight, her face is so dark, she's here physically but you can tell mentally she's far away. You're the only one that can fix her."

Nathan sighs and chokes back a sob, "Please take care of her Miah."

"I will, she moved in with Robyn."

"Why?"

"I don't know, but I'll let you know when I find out."

"Okay thanks."

"No problem, but Nathan now it's your turn why did you two break up?"

"It's a complicated, and I can't tell you."

"What's so complicated Nathan? Don't you understand how much you've hurt Kathy? Why can't you just come and tell her what's going on I'm sure whatever it is Kathy will get over it and forgive you."

"I'm not so sure she should. I messed up Miah and now I have to deal with the consequences."

Hearing a car pull up on the rocky driveway Miah looks up and sees a black crossfire. "What could be so bad that you don't think Kathy could forgive you? You're the sweetest guy I know. It's not like you cheated on her...you didn't cheat on her did you?" Miah bites her lower lip worried that's what happened.

"I don't know..."

"How could you not know?"Miah squints her big brown eyes trying to ignore the setting sun to see who was getting out.

"Like I said its a complicated situation okay you're just going to have to trust me. I love Kathy more than anything in this world and I just need to stay away she deserves so much better."

"You want to know what I think?" Miah sees it's Alexis, Nathan's cousin getting out of the car and starts walking towards her. "You're a coward Nathan and you're right Kathy does deserve better. Get your act together and come talk to her. She loves you and you need to tell her, she thinks she's the one that did something wrong." Miah hangs up the phone and puts it into her dark jeans pocket. Anger pulsing through her veins.

Alexis waves at Miah and starts heading over to where she stood. Pushing her short jet black hair out of her face and putting it in a ponytail. "Hey girly, how are you? I've missed you!" They quickly hug.

"I'm good, I've missed you too. How's everything going?"

"You heard about Kathy and Nathan right?" Alexis asks as they start heading toward the house.

"Yeah, I was actually just talking to your cousin."

"Nathan? How's he doing?" Alexis stops in her tracks a look of concern crosses her tanned face.

"He sounded awful over the phone. You haven't visited him?"

"He's been AWOL, he left on some trip after him and Kathy broke up, no ones seen or talked to him since."

"Do you know why he broke up with her?"

Alexis starts walking again shaking her head sadly, "No one knows. What did he tell you?"

"All he said is that it's complicated."

"I wish he would just come and talk to Kathy."

"Me too." Miah slowly opens the door.
