Robyn comes to check up on Kathy four days after she poured out her heart. When Robyn walks into Kathy's bedroom she finds her suitcase on her queen sized bed. For the first time in 3 months she sees Kathy's blue comforter made up and her room is cleaned, she can actually see Kathy's creamy white carpet. Robyn can hear Kathy in the adjacent bathroom, so she sits on her bright blue and green butterfly chair. After a few minutes Kathy comes out holding a few things in her hands, she jumps a little startled by Robyn's presence.
"Hey, I didn't even hear you come in." Kathy's tells her in her ever so present monotone voice. As she puts a few things in her suitcase.
Robyn states at Kathy in shock, she was wearing her tan skinny jeans, light blue blouse and ballet flats, her hair in a side fishtail braid. "Are you going somewhere?" Robyn finally speaks up when she sees Kathy go into her walk in closet.
"Yeah, I have to get out of here." Kathy replies as she walks out with some jeans and shirts.
"Where are you going?"
"I haven't thought that far yet. I just can't be here anymore Robyn I need to leave." After placing the clothes on her bed she starts to fold them.
"When are you coming back?" Robyn gets up from the butterfly chair and walks closer to Kathy.
Kathy bites her lower lip and mumbles, "I'm not coming back."
Robyn stares at her best friend back in shock, "What do you mean you're not coming back?"
"I finished my degree, Nathan's gone there's nothing keeping me here anymore." Kathy holds back her tears as she says the last part.
"What about Sam and all your friends?" Robyn sticks her hands in her jeans, trying to keep herself from breaking down at the thought of her best friend leaving.
"Sammy will be fine without me she's been the one having to take care of me lately and that's not how it's suppose to be. If my friends are true friends then you'll understand why I have to leave. There's too many memories here, and it hurts way to much." Kathy puts the last of her clothes in her suitcase and walks to her closet to get some shoes.
"Kathy are you really going to let one heartbreak determine what you do with your life?" Robyn walks around to the other side of the bed to face Kathy, as she puts her converse in the crowded suitcase.
"One heartbreak? You think this was just a simple heart break? He was my everything Robyn. For eight years. Do you understand that? Can you even begin to comprehend what he was for me?" Kathy stared at Robyn with piercing eyes her tone low but bitter. A chill ran down Robyn's back never seeing this side of Kathy before began to frighten her. "What am I suppose to do Robyn? I don't have a choice, you don't understand how much it hurts for me to be here. You don't know how much my heart broke when Nathan left, especially not knowing what I did to make him go. He is constantly in my thoughts and I just need to leave and clear my head, I need a fresh start." Kathy clears her throat and quickly wipes a few tears from her cheeks.
"How do you know that wherever you go you aren't going to think about him there?" Robyn looks at Kathy with her big hazel eyes as she closes up her suitcase.
"I don't but at least there will be more space between us I can't stand knowing that he's so close, yet so far away at the same time." Kathy takes a deep breath and puts her suitcase on the floor.
"What if you could find out why he left, would you stay?"
"It doesn't matter Robyn I'm never going to know he wouldn't tell me."
"Just answer Kat, if you could know why he left would you stay?" Hope flashes across Robyn's pale face.
Kathy shrugs her shoulders and takes the large purple suitcase off of her bed. "I don't know. Maybe, possibly... I guess it depends."
