Broken Hearted

Chapter 9

"So does that mean...are you my...are we...related? Oh my goodness please don't tell me I kissed my brother!" Kathy began to hyperventilate while these thoughts flooded her mind.

     "Kitten slow down, we aren't related." Nathan tells her trying to keep from laughing.

     Kathy's cheeks begin to redden and Nathan softly caresses them. "I've missed you Nate." Kathy's eyes become sad and the strength that she had before slowly diminishes. Nathan sees the hurt she's been keeping down.

     "I've missed you too kitten." Nathan moves in to give Kathy a hug but she shakes her head.

     "I'm sorry Nate I can't just forgive you. I need to know what happened."

     "It's okay I understand."

     "So if we aren't related then what does that have to do with my father? And I can't believe your adopted, how'd you find out? Why didn't they ever tell you?" Kathy asks confused.

     "When I was five I got into a car accident, with my biological parents. I was in the hospital for a few months with a concussion. My parents didn't make it but I did. The doctor that I went to go see when I found out, said that the event was so traumatic that my brain made me forget.  I vaguely remember the day they discharged me they said I had been in a car accident, but that was all."

     "Nate I'm so sorry this happened to you. So wait how do you not remember going to a shelter or a home?"

     "Oh my parents adopted me while I was still in the hospital."

     "Oh okay. When did they tell you this?"

     "A little bit before you left to Switzerland."

     "Nathaniel why didn't you tell me?" Kathy's eyes go wide with disappointment.

     "Because you wouldn't have left if you would have known and you deserved to go. It was your dream I wasn't going to ruin that for you."

     Kathy's expression softens, "You're too sweet Nathan."

     "No I'm not Kathy, I really hurt you."

     "True. Okay so I know all of this but it still doesn't explain how my dad's involved."

     "While I was looking around at all my adoption papers, I had asked your dad advice on how to get records on people since he's a cop. He thought I was snooping around his past and he wanted to cover it up. So he thought that if he made me believe I cheated on you then I would tell you, and you would break up with me before I had the chance to tell you."

     "Is it true Nate? Does he have another kid?"

     "Yes, he does."

     "Why didn't you tell me?"

     "I just found out about the-"

     "I mean about you cheating. Why didn't you ever tell me?"

     "I was scared of losing you."

     "But you did lose me Nathan and you should have known I would have forgiven you."

     "I know that now Kat, I was a coward and there's no excuse for my stupidity. Kat, I was just wondering do you forgive me?" Nathan looks at Kathy hopefully.

     "I wish this had never happened to you Nate." Kathy tells him as she looks at him sympathetically.

     "I would have never met you."

     "What?"

     "If my parents wouldn't have died. And my new family wouldn't have adopted me I would have never met you. I'm not from here Kat. I moved here with my family. In a way I'm glad all of this happened."

     Kathy remains speechless unsure of what to do or say.

     Nathan looks up at the clear blue sky and takes a deep breath. Squinting his eyes he looks back and Kathy and sucks in a deep breath. The sun was starting to go down and she was right in front of a beautiful sunset. "You look beautiful kitten." Nathan moves close to Kathy and feels her breathing start to quicken when she doesn't stop him he moves in and kisses her. 

     "I forgive you Nate, I love you always will."

     "You don't understand how much I've been wanting to hear those words out of your mouth. I love you kitten, more than you'll ever know." Nathan kisses Kathy's hand and intertwines them as they peacefully watch the subset.

Authors Note: I know it's short but I couldn't really think. There's only one chapter left. I'm not too happy with this story so I might rewrite it one day but for now this is how it'll be. Hope you enjoyed pease comment :) have a good day!
