"I was out very far, a week's journey from here. I was simply hauling in some fish from the net when suddenly I heard an ear-splitting roar!" A Viking recalled, "And that was when I saw him. Blizzard, the beastly ice dragon. But the strange part was that two Night Furies were fighting it along with seven other dragons! They shot fire into his mouth and he crashed into the sea. To this day, I can still remember the sight of the Night Furies. I thank Thor that neither of them was the Winter Fury." I shuttered at the mention.
"Then what?" I asked curiously.
"One of the Night Furies turned into a human girl! It was quite the unusual sight. Then-" He was cut off when the chair next to him was suddenly completely frozen over.
"WINTER FURY!" Someone shouted and the horn went off. I covered my ears and took a nervous glance around. There was the Winter Fury, glowing with bright blue lines that matched his eyes.
Panic took over when I realized that he was flying straight at me. I weaved around the frightened sheep and Vikings, trying to outrun the dragon. The scream that indicated an ice ball had been shot stopped me in my tracks. The ground under me froze over and I slipped and fell over.
As I struggled pitifully to my feet, something dark, thick, and scaly wrapped around both my arms. I screamed loudly and tried to escape the Winter Fury's grasp before we were too high up, but I had no such luck. I reluctantly shut my mouth and waited stiffly for the dreadful future.
The Winter Fury flew for a very long time. I didn't know where we were going, so I numbly anticipated for the end of the flight. Around five or six hours later, a deserted island with lots of trees came up ahead. When the Winter Fury put me down, I made a run for it, climbing a random tree and hiding behind the leaves and branches.
The dark dragon sniffed me out and tried to roar me out of the tree, with no such luck. He flew at it lightning-quick, but I ducked behind the trunk and he slammed into it, scarcely missing me but getting cut by branches in the process. I sighed in relief but my breath hitched again when the beast used its incredible jaw strength to rip the roots of the tree right out of the ground. I hung on for dear life, fearing what would happen if I fell out of the maple tree.
The Winter Fury carried the tree into a previously unnoticed underground cave. My stomach clenched. Eventually, the tree was flung into a particularly large cavern and my grasp slipped as I fell onto the cold stone ground.
Unfortunately, when I tried to get out, the tree had lodged itself into the entrance, blocking it off. I tried for ten minutes to break enough branches or to get it out of the way, but my struggles proved to be fruitless. I finally decided to curl up into the corner and attempt to fall asleep.
I woke to shuffling and scratching. It was very early in the morning, still dark, but I could just make out the faint glow of the Winter Fury's neon blue eyes. He was trying to break the tree! I sat in wonder, pondering over why he didn't just blast the tree down, but then I realized a blast might hit me.
The situation seemed so off, how the Winter Fury took me away from my island, Luceat, and trapped me in here. But now he was trying to get me out, but without hurting me? I thought hard. There was only one solution. Something was happening on Luceat that the Winter Fury knew would kill us. He was trying to scare us off so we would leave, but we never did. So he took a villager to safety and hoped that I would be able to figure it out and warn my town. But now I'm stuck here. Oh, joy.
A/N: Okay, two things. First, did you notice that this is Arboribus (from the first book)? Second, this takes place a year before HTTYD2, which is the time zone of Race to the Edge. If you haven't seen the Netflix series Race to the Edge, then watch it (you'll love it if you're an HTTYD fan). If you don't have Netflix, get one or find a friend that has one and make them let you watch it (not literally). Lol but yeah, watching Race to the Edge will probably clear up some confusion.
Another A/N (05-21-17): Heyyo, 2017 Ella here yet again. Just popped in to let you all know that I'm currently editing what I have written so far before I continue writing this. The chapters that I edit will be titled with (EDITED). Once I finish, I'll remove the markers and this note. Thank you!
