Adira
"Remind me again why we are back on Arboribus?" Melanite asked from beneath me with extreme distaste. The island was always too good to be true. Right when we first got settled, in came another attack from Dagur.
"To see if there are any Smothering Smokebreaths left to recruit into the Dragon Pack," I responded very matter-of-factly.
"Right." The Skrill mumbled gruffly from beneath me.
Ever since the Battle of Fire and Ice, I've decided to limit my use of being my silver-and-gold dragon form (or Bladewing, as Fishlegs insisted we called it). Since then I've preferred to stay mostly as a human and be a Bladewing only when necessary.
"Finally, we're here," I remarked once I spotted the large island with a hidden underground cave.
"Let's just get in and out," Melanite grumbled.
We landed outside an entrance and briskly headed inside. A little distance into the dank tunnels, Melanite spotted something interesting.
"Why is there a leaf in the middle of a cave?"
"It must have blown in or something."
Within a minute later I found a large clump of maple leaves. My gaze traveled upward to another small clump a few feet away.
"I think it's a trail of leaves." I commented while Melanite nodded in agreement, "let's follow it."
After five more minutes of following the trail of leaves, we came across the fallen maple tree that supplied the scattered leaves. I called out a careful, "hello?"
Silence. But something was off. I could sense the presence of another being other than Melanite and I. Someone was stuck behind the uprooted tree but wasn't responding. I called out again, "hello? Is there anyone there?"
A sudden growl sounded behind us. I spun around to see a blue-eyed Night Fury, but a closer look told me it was not your standard Toothless. He growled again and several parts of his dark scales glowed blue. He shot a blue plasma blast at the ground and it froze over, causing me to almost trip. Melanite came up next to me and snarled warningly.
"Leave here." The glowing dragon demanded.
"What- why- we only came to see if there are any Smothering Smokebreaths to recruit!" I protested.
"Wait..." the dragon paused, "you can understand me?"
"Yes, I'm half Bladewing, long story. Melanite and I didn't come for a fight, we'll leave now." I said.
"No," Melanite interjected, "if this dragon wants a fight, this dragon will get one."
"Shut up!" I whispered as an indication for him to be quiet.
"Fine then..." the dragon growled and charged another ice/plasma blast.
"Wait!" Another voice rung out, a human voice. I spun around and saw a green-eyed blonde girl's head poke out from behind a branch. "Frostbite, wait. Don't hurt her and her dragon." I stared at her in shock. There was another person there.
Crystal
I watched the unfamiliar brunette stare in shock. It was almost too good to be true, another human to help get me out of the cavern. I couldn't let Frostbite kill her and her dragon.
"Hi... um... this is awkward." She stuttered, obviously startled from when I came out of nowhere. She regained her composure. "Do you need help to get out of there?"
"Sure," I responded, "if you could possibly get an ax or something-"
"No, no, not necessary." She cut me off. "Okay, I'm about to do something crazy, but don't freak out until you get the full explanation." And then BAM, she was a slim, silver-and-gold dragon with a metallic gold blade at the end of her tail.
Stand back. The words echoed in my brain. My eyes widened in awe as she severed the tree in half with her tail blade. And in a flash, she was a human again.
"What in Odin's name just happened?"
"Long story short, I was born on some special day on a boat over a magical lair of some sort. When I was fourteen and a half I became part-dragon, also know as a Bladewing. I can talk to dragons too."
"That's incredible," I stated. "What's your name?"
"I'm Adira, and this Skrill is Melanite." Adira introduced, "and you are?"
"My name's Crystal and the Winter Fury over there is Frostbite."
"Winter Fury?" Adira asked curiously. "I'm thinking that it's an evolved form of the standard Night Fury. More of an ice version..." she trailed off and gasped, "oh my Gods, I bet he knows Blizzard!"
"Blizzard..." I thought for a second, trying to place the familiar name, "oh, there was a Viking from my village that saw the battle with Blizzard. He said two Night Furies were fighting him and then one of them turned into a human. I presume that was you?"
"Guilty," she muttered, deep in thought. Finally, she asked, "so why are you in here?"
I started to explain my theory about something bad happening to Luceat when it suddenly hit me. "Luceat... now that I'm out of here, I can try and save my village! Frostbite, what was going to happen again?"
Frostbite growled something I couldn't understand, but Adira seemed to hear it nice and clear. "He says that a nest of starving Fireworms is going to attack in search of food. But this nest has a Fireworm Queen, meaning your village doesn't stand a chance!"
"We have to get back there, and quick!" I exclaimed, frightened. Frostbite walked over to comfort me. "Frostbite's ice will melt into water when it's near the flames. That water will put out the fires. We need to go!"
"Alright, come on, Melanite," Adira said, hopping onto a fancy saddle and grabbing the handles. She gestured towards the entrance of the underground cave, "lead the way, Crystal."
And with that, I jumped bareback onto Frostbite and sped out of the cave. I knew it was a long flight to Luceat, but with both Strike Class dragons flying at top speed, we might just make it in time. I sure hoped so...
A/N: Cliffhanger! Yeah! Honestly, that sucked though. Sorry, I'm really hyper right now and I was just watching some Race to the Edge, so now all of my thoughts are in Tuffnut's voice. So I feel really stupid right now (because the twins are complete idiots, no one can disagree). Yeah, so I hope you enjoyed and bye!
