Open Water

The tarnished ripples lapped around my throat,
A necklace of infinite ocean.
Slack hands gripped my shoulders,
Pushing down, down, down from above.
Pressure swelled inside my skull,
Pressing into the notches of it's shell.
I endeavored to swim upwards, for sky, for air,
But I got nowhere.
The vast weight shoved me under, my struggle all the worse,
Weary limbs unable to protest
Against the molasses-like liquid.
My water collar tightened,
Toes gone stiff in the cold.
