For the people who walked around the city today was a day like any other, the sky was clear, the weather was neither cold nor hot, the birds sang, and the slimes moved around curiously. Although things seemed normal on the outside, the heart of a certain blonde was fighting a battle under an intense storm; usually, being object of this feeling made him determined and even more focused on his goals, but from time to time he couldn't help but fall victim to melancholy. And today was one of those moments.

His sapphire eyes observed in detail the medium image that he kept in a pocket watch. He had lost count of the number of times he had analyzed her, he could even make a painting of her perfectly with his eyes closed. There was no secret in that image to him. The said photo was a portrait of Dainsleif and his beloved who was taken away from him on the same day he asked for her hand in marriage. The memories that photograph brought back were as fresh as if they had just happened yesterday.

One day many years in the past, the golden-haired one enjoyed his free day after tough moths serving as a Royal Guard. He talked to his girlfriend so they could have some quality time as a couple. He picked her up at her job, the young woman was a renowned florist famous for her beautiful flower arrangements that combined the few native flowers of Khaenri'ah with those of other nations, her art was unmatched in any of the other countries of the world. Being in front of the door of that business brought him several incredible memories, two, in particular, he treasured with great affection, after all that was the place where they first met years ago as well as the place where they shared their first kiss.

He perfectly recorded every detail of their kiss in his memory. After his workday ended, (TN) asked someone to look for the blue-eyed man with the premise that she had something for him. Dainsleif didn't think much about it, the only thing that came to his mind was that she would surely want him to give his opinion on a new style of flower arrangement for the highest authority of Khaenri'ah, or that she had simply prepared a dessert and wanted to share it together. A lot was his surprise when he arrived at the establishment and found a very distracted girl, who she was waiting for had already arrived, but for some strange reason she seemed nervous, she got excited almost every time the blond addressed her a word. He tried to ask her repeatedly about the reason for her behavior, but this concern was answered with a no-credible "it's nothing".

A few minutes later, the reason for her condition came to light. With a hesitant voice, (TN) confessed her feelings for him. Silence filled the store for a few moments, Dainsleif was thinking about what just happened. The handsome man corresponded with vehemence; he thought that he would be the one who would declare his love for her first, that's what he planned.

"I am greatly pleased by your feelings for me." He replied with a gentle smile. "I must admit that I've been in love with you for a while now too. I apologize if this is not the confession you expected from me, but this has taken me by surprise completely."

A broad smile spread across the girl's face, and she placed her index finger on his lips. She was very given to physical contact, and after a few years of knowing each other, he was already used to her hugging him, stroking his hair, or taking him by the arm without warning. She didn't bother him at all. What amazed him once again was the next act of the woman. Both bravely and tenderly, she placed a small kiss on the lips of the royal guard after having withdrawn her finger from him.

"Do not apologize. This is more than enough for me." She stated in a dreamy tone of voice.

On the day of their marriage proposal, the girl was wearing a beautiful dress of her favorite color that fell above her knee, matching her shoes and the flower crown that rested on her head, accessories which she was also very skilled a...

On the day of their marriage proposal, the girl was wearing a beautiful dress of her favorite color that fell above her knee, matching her shoes and the flower crown that rested on her head, accessories which she was also very skilled at doing. Dainsleif took her to one of the most divine landscapes that could be found in Khaenri'ah, he prepared a beautiful evening under the last rays of sunset. He was in charge of ordering their favorite dishes and organizing the decorations of the place to make it feel as comfortable and special as possible. They spent time in a pleasant way, the delicious food was no longer on their plates and they talked nonstop; for the young lady, it was a date like several others they had already had, but everything took a big turn when with a tranquil face he took her hand and knelt in the traditional way in which one proposes marriage, with his free hand placed it on his heart and looked into her eyes. The light of the moon that had already begun to rise bathed Dainsleif giving the occasion a mystical touch.

He still had the mental image of his beloved's expression once such famous words rolled softly from his lips. Her eyes watered, she couldn't help but smile like a goofball; without thinking it twice, she gave him an answer: "Yes". Dainsleif then decorated her ring finger with a sparkling ring.

His memory may be a little blurry after wandering around the world for so long, but even if more than a thousand years passed, and many more, there were things that he could never forget.

He let out a wistful sigh without looking away from the photograph, his hand balling into a fist but quickly relaxing again. The blonde looked up as she felt someone approach her slowly.

"You're still staring at that picture..." The tone of sadness in her voice was palpable; she sat next to him.

"I apologize." Dain said, carefully putting the image away.

"No need. As long as we're together everything will be fine..."

"I'll find a way to reverse this. Whatever it takes."

A tear ran down the cheek of his companion. Dainsleif raised his hand, intending to wipe her tears away, but she moved away before he could touch her.

"Don't... I'm a..."

"Don't you dare to repeat that." The blonde said harshly.

Seeing her in these moments of weakness made his heartache. His failure to protect Khaenri'ah had affected all the inhabitants of the nation, not only had he been cursed with eternal life, but his fiancée was also affected by this by becoming a hydro abyss mage. Since the fall of the empire, they were closer than ever, even after they defected from the Order of the Abyss. Their passage through life was quite complicated, they had all the time in the world, but it wasn't pleasant at all, at least not for (TN); of course, there were beautiful moments when she began to think that she was lucky to be able to see how much the world has changed, but her condition limited her a lot. She accompanied Dainsleif everywhere, but she kept hiding from everything and everyone due to the shame she felt from her appearance and for fear that people would mistake her for an evil being.

She got quite depressed everytime she saw how her appearance was centuries ago, she wanted to return to normal. On the other hand, Dainsleif wanted with all his being to caress her again, kiss her, and hold her with great affection in his arms as he used to do when everything was fine. The reasons why his fiancee no longer wanted to have that kind of contact with the blonde were clear, she felt dirty and unworthy. Ever since Khaenri'ah's fall took place, he swore that one of his missions was to find a way in which he could break that curse and return his girl to normal. He would continue with his journey for as long as it took just to hug her again like in the old days. She had been trapped in the body of a monster for many years and she was beginning to feel that way about herself, but Dainsleif always kept in mind that she wasn't such a thing as a monster, but she the love of his life. Her soul was still as pure as it was when he first met her.
