Living In Denial

Isabela lets out a sigh as she takes cover from the rain that starts to pour, the skies filled with dark clouds that made her quite anxious. "Tía Pepa I hope you're alright." She whispers as she watches the drops fall from the small roof she settled under.

She certainly liked the calm feeling of rain as it resounded against windows and pavements but she didn't enjoy seeing her tía upset, nor getting wet under the rain.

Unwillingly, her thoughts drift to you. The rain had reminded her of you, how you always looked so gloomy yet indifferent to everyone else. She found it unbearable how you would be insensitive, putting up a cold exterior and letting your past haunt you.

She was well aware that trauma wasn't easy to overcome, but you continued to let it affect you, thus affecting how you currently lived and how people viewed you.

Then the sudden side of you that enjoyed messing with her took her by surprise, driving her just a little bit crazy. It was unexpected but refreshing to see that you could actually let loose, even if it was directed at her.

Part of her felt like the two of you could get along if either of you had wanted to, slightly noticing similarities between you that she was too proud to currently admit.

Making your way through town with an umbrella, you had bought food for you and Mirabel to feast on while enjoying the cool weather. You absolutely loved when it rained, it took all your sheer willpower to try and not run under it. That would certainly be a sight to see for everyone around town. It would also be the topic for a certain Madrigal to pester you with.

Just as you walk into the plaza, there you find her shielding herself from the rain. A smirk finds its way onto your face as she looks quite agitated by how strong the rain was.

And as if sensing a threat in her surroundings, she turns to you with sharp eyes. "Scared of a little rain princesa?" You ask as she scoffs in response.

You hated to admit that every time she would look at you, her beauty immediately tried to leave you speechless. Growing up here and seeing her all the time helped you get used to it, making it just a little bit easier to stop a sweat from breaking every time you made eye contact.

She smiles sweetly, using her signature wooing expression to try and make you do something she'd like, her annoyed expression immediately masked and forgotten. "Won't you take me home? I'm sure you're heading there anyway since you don't have any other friends aside from Mirabel." She says with her usual sweet tone, which was the first time she'd ever used it on you.

You let out a laugh at her attempt to convince you despite her mocking you for only having Mirabel as a friend. "Says the girl who only has Mariano as a friend outside of family. Oh wait, that's not real either isn't it? After all, it's so obvious you disli-"

Before you could continue, flowers fill your mouth as she pulls you closer with the use of her vines. "Shut your mouth before you say something you could regret." She threatens as she doesn't dare look away from you.

Wearing a sweet smile that mirrored hers from just a second ago, you speak as you get closer. "Why don't you shut me up then?" Pushing her back against a wall with a confident smile.

Unbeknownst to you, Isa's heart starts pounding in her chest, nervousness flooding her for the first time since you've ever started having these petty little arguments. Yet she does her best to establish dominance, not backing down as she pushes you back.

Taking advantage of how close you were, she pulled you along as you hold your umbrella, the two of you squeezing in under the small cover and walking away from her previous spot. "Wha- you could just ask one of the boys around town for an umbrella! I'm sure they'd all come licking your shoes just to give them a chance to be next to you."

"I'd rather not be cramped up in a tiny umbrella with people like that, thank you very much." She says as she looks forward, dragging the two of you towards La Casa Madrigal.

"So you'd rather be cramped up next to me, someone you can't stand? And excuse you, the feeling is mutual." You say despite giving her most of the umbrella, raindrops falling off the edge and landing on your shoulder.

"Yes, I would. Now shut up before I start strangling you." She says, not even giving you a side glance. She was walking way faster than usual, convincing you that she immediately wanted to get away from you as soon as possible.

When really she just didn't like it when thunder struck while she was out. She would have rather much been in the comfort of her home before that could happen.

Having you next to her also gave her a sense of comfort from the thought. Your shoulder getting wet in order to give her more cover didn't go by unnoticed. Not an inch of her was wet from the rain, and perhaps you weren't as bad as she thought. But she shook it out of her head as soon as it came.

Arriving at Casita, it welcomes you and opens the door for both of you to enter. Mirabel comes out from the kitchen, her gaze shifting from you to Isabela repeatedly. "Did you come in together?"

"Yes." Isabela simply answers as she already maintains a comfortable amount of distance between the two of you.

"She held me hostage." You whisper with dread in your eyes as you look at her retreating figure, who was already making her way to her room.

A vine smacks you on the wrist, making you drop all the snacks you bought for the afternoon. "I heard that." She answers before closing the door behind her.

You stick your tongue out at her door, knowing full well she wouldn't be able to see it anyway. The mood with her had felt more light than it usually was, it was like you were joking with a friend.

You find yourself disgusted at the thought of being friends with her. You'd rather fall down a pit than ever let that happen.

It would simply take a miracle for the two of you to get along. A miracle much stronger than the one that grants them their gifts and their home.

It was probably weak anyway since it refused to give Mirabel one.
