"Abuelita... you told me I'd be helping Mirabel." You state as she drags you along town, Isabela being the only Madrigal in sight.
The older woman laughs as she tightens her grip on your arm. She may be shorter than you, but damn could she drag you along like you weighed nothing more than a piece of paper. "It would have been impossible to get you out of the house if I told you that you'd be helping Isabela."
You watch as the perfect smile on Isabela's face turns grim when she meets your gaze. You wonder how people never notice such expressions on her face, particularly because of the sudden transition from 'literal goddess' to 'looking to kill you'.
Isabela stands up and walks toward the two of you, looking at abuelita with her typical practiced smile. "Abuela told me I'd be getting an extra set of hands, would that be why you're here señora?"
Isabela was never one to turn down assistance when it came to her chores, but if it came from you specifically, she'd rather not accept. Primarily because you lacked the social skills needed to interact with others appropriately.
Abuelita nods as she pushes you closer to the older girl, Isabela not daring to protest in the presence of your family. You could though, you pretend to gag as your shoulders touch, making sure to maintain distance as soon as they touch.
"Yes, although I won't be the one helping you this time. It will prove to be a good experience for her." Abuelita says as she winks at you like it was some form of her wishing you good luck. She was well aware of your strained relationship and simply hoped for the two of you to get along as well as you did with Mirabel.
Jokes on her though, that will never happen. "I don't mean to be rude, but I seriously doubt y/n could handle those kids. They're not easy to please." She says as she tries to be direct while sugar-coating the fact that she finds you incapable. "I'm afraid I'd just be babysitting her too."
You feel your eye twitch in annoyance as you turn to her. Now you're taking it as a challenge. "I bet I can make them like me more than you."
Abuelita rolls her eyes as you turn it into another competition with Isabela. It was something the two of you had frequently done when you were stuck together. Part of her thinks this was how the two of you showed your affection for one another, convinced that neither of you actually disliked the other since she always saw the mischief and amusement dancing in both of your eyes.
"It seems you like to believe in the impossible." She says as she flips her hair at you, making sure you dodge before it smacks you right on the face, giving you a whiff of her sweet scent as it flies past you.
She smiles at abuelita as she links your arms, already fighting back a shiver at how close the two of you were. "Well, we'll get going señora." She says as she pulls you with her forcefully, not caring whether you looked like idiots grumbling complaints under your breaths while wearing forced smiles.
When abuelita leaves, you immediately pull your arm away from her grasp. "Ass-kisser." You whisper loud enough for her to hear as the two of you walk towards the house that needed help babysitting.
"Detached hermit." She says as she tries to walk ahead of you, making sure to lead the two of you while maintaining a safe distance.
You decide to playfully take steps forward from her, looking as if she was the one following you. She immediately uses her vines to pull you back a step behind her, pretending not to have done a thing as she keeps her head held high when she walks through the door.
You almost trip on your own feet while the vines disappear, going through the door and using it to balance yourself. You find the kids smiling as they rush to Isabela, glimmering eyes as they look up at her in awe.
