A week is all it takes of Isabela ignoring you to finally push you to your limits. A few weeks ago, it wouldn't have bothered you one bit and it was slowly driving you mad.

Now you were suddenly aware of everything she was doing, and how she gave you the cold shoulder. You were convincing yourself that she was of no importance, but not being acknowledged by her pissed you off and told you otherwise.

You gather courage, walking towards La Casa Madrigal with clenched fists. Ever since your last argument, your frequent coughs had also intensified. You wouldn't have even been surprised if you started throwing up whole flowers.

They were all the same yellow petals, ones that weren't familiar to you. A part of you had felt it was somehow connected to the way Isabela made you feel, but a part of you also wanted to deny it.

Because that would be admitting to having a weakness for Isabela Madrigal, the woman whom you were supposed to abhor with all of your being.

It felt like your mind was playing tricks on the way she treated you that night. It replayed in your head over and over, analyzing it and trying to search for what the catch was.

But no hidden motives ever crossed your mind. She had made sure her mamá got to you before she left you on your own, showing that she actually cared.

It only made the guilt wear you up even more. You couldn't decipher her at all, a mystery that somehow couldn't be solved. The affection that suddenly shone on her eyes that night was no lie, no illusion.

You couldn't understand the change. She had never acted this way before, never showed vulnerability, so why now? You couldn't help but wonder what triggered it, whether it was leading up to this point or if it was just overnight.

You greet Casita quickly as it leads you up the stairs. Taking a turn towards the older woman's room, you appreciate the flowers around her door for the first time.

You didn't like admitting it out loud, but you truly admired her flowers. She deserved more credit for it, especially if she started adding splashes of creativity.

You take your sweet time by the door, your fingertips stroke the engraved lines softly. The door was truly mesmerizing, you understood exactly why Mirabel felt the way she did.

And although you hated when everyone judged her for not having a gift, you did the same thing to Isabela with the front she had for others.

You didn't know her pain or story, and yet you spoke like you knew everything. You had crossed a line, acting up from all the feelings that started surfacing for her slowly.

But since when did the two of you ever have lines to cross? Since when did you need to worry about boundaries and hurting each other's feelings? You hadn't even realized how things had changed from how everything was all moving so fast.

Maybe you were just dense or didn't know how to read between the lines. Or maybe your fear of attachment had just blurred how your relationship with her started improving.

You were aware of how you coped, knowing you were truly a part to be blamed. And if Mirabel knew you were getting soft on her sister who was loved by everyone, there would be an undeniable feeling of betrayal.

Because you were all that she had. You were the only thing keeping her going from all the remarks the town had to say to her. You were the only one who showed kindness and warmth to her on that bitter day.

Taking a deep breath, your knuckles meet the wood three times. The door opens, an annoyed expression on her face. Yet she still looks perfect, even if she was just being in her room. "Mirabel if you won't stop bugging me I-"

She stops mid-sentence as your eyes meet, freezing in surprise. Before either of you could recover, she slams the door on your face by instinct, leaving you breathless.

Mirabel could tell something had gone wrong, but just as usual, you wouldn't exactly open up to her about it. Especially if it concerned her eldest sister.

And since she couldn't get answers from you, she took it upon herself to relentlessly ask her sister if she offended you during an argument between the two of you.

But Isabela had also kept her mouth shut, covering for you despite her getting it the other way around. Although even if she told the truth, Mirabel wouldn't believe her anyway.

You stand in shock, opening your mouth to speak but being unable to form a single coherent word. Your chest tightens once again, your throat going dry as you feel the immediate urge to cough, feeling the petals already restricting you.

On the other side of the door, Isabela leans on it, her heart racing as a blush creeps on her face. She was supposed to be angry, and yet just seeing you trying to fix things made her get a feeling of euphoria.

You cared.

For the first time, her heart was fluttering. It was taking everything in her to fight the urge of opening the door again just to see the concerned look on your face.

A knock resounds once again, your own heart beating in nervousness. You just wanted to walk home in embarrassment and regurgitate all the flower petals in your body. "Isabela... if we could just talk."

Every time you said her name, it was like angels were singing in her ears. She usually felt nothing when she heard her name being called, but it was a new feeling for both of you.

Usually calling her by random names was the thing you did. Hearing it roll off your tongue was rare enough for it to be appreciated every time it slipped out of your mouth.

"You should leave." She says, trying to stand her ground. If you had truly meant to apologize, you would at least try three times after being denied, right? "I don't want to see you."

You let out a breath, instantly chasing after it and leaning on the door when you hear her speaking just behind it. "I wanted to apologize... I'm sorry. You were just trying to help me and my behavior was inexcusable."

The door opens, her arms folded as she stares at you. Sass coats her tone as she speaks. "I don't want to accept your apology."

You immediately fight the urge to strangle her in frustration, your lungs getting restrained by all the flowers filling inside.

Until you notice a playful smirk sitting on her lips, making you let out a breath in disbelief, still wonderstruck at the sudden change of demeanor between the two of you.

All of a sudden, the constricting feeling in your body disappears, like she could control the way they moved inside. It was similar to the feeling of being freed from shackles weighing you down.

But you weren't about to give in so easily to her just because you felt relieved. If her goal was to simply better your relationship, she was in for one hell of a ride. The playful side of you was just the beginning of everything.

Before you could let out a remark, Mirabel walks out of the nursery room, her eyebrows meeting in confusion as she scans the scene in front of her. "What are you doing here? And why are you meeting Isabela?"
