"Is that how far your feelings go?" Dolores grabs Isabela by the wrist as she attempts to retreat to her room, pulling her to look her in the eye. Her grasp tightens, stinging Isabela's skin slightly as she speaks in a low growl.
Isabela stands confidently, facing her and not backing down. "I don't know what you're talking about. I've simply decided to rest in my room since your little announcement is over." She speaks in contempt, her eyes narrowing as Dolores scoffs.
"Is that all you ever answer? That's the same thing you told Mirabel. Don't you ever get sick of living in your high tower where no one can reach you?" Her lips shake slightly, trying her best to push Isabela even if she knew her heart was unmoveable. "Doesn't it ever get lonely?"
Isabela pulls her wrist away, turning around to leave once again. "I'm perfectly fine, now if you'll excuse me-"
Just as she opens the door to her room, Dolores slams it back closed. "Stop running away."
"I'm not running away."
"Then what do you call what you're doing right now? Pretending, just like you always have? Do you really want to throw this all away just like every other thing you've ever loved?" Isabela had loved so many things, although flowers were her number one, she also loved making trinkets and writing. Oh how Dolores used to adore her writing.
But she let it all go, making sure to obey Abuela and prioritize everyone else but herself. All the things she had wanted to do with her life had been set aside to live a life that someone else created for her.
"Why won't you let her be the one thing you allow yourself to be selfish over?" Dolores asks, her voice heightening in annoyance. "Why won't you give in...?"
"I don't think about just myself, that's why." Isabela's eyes harden as she looks at her, anger slowly brewing in the pit of her stomach, threatening to release if Dolores continues to push.
"I'd rather you think more about yourself than others. Have you seen how miserable you look?" Almost stating it in a whisper, like it was something Isabela couldn't see herself without being told so.
She had become so blind to feeling things herself that when she looked into the mirror, all she could see was Abuela looking right back at her.
"Have you seen how miserable she is?" Dolores speaks once again, her eyes desperate, begging for some kind of salvation for the three of you. "You're the only one she longs for her when she can't get any sleep or when her mind's in a storm. You're the peace she longs for and the only one who can save her. Just as how she saves you..."
Dolores couldn't bear seeing you restless anymore, not when she knew that the one person who could save you was also the same person who was turning away from you.
Her chest starts beating dangerously slow, the feeling of flowers filling her lungs slowly and reaching all the way to her heart. It was suffocating... It felt like begging for love all over again, like getting mere bits and pieces of what's left.
"I've never needed saving Dolores. I've learned to live this way, and it's about time you've accepted it too. Besides, you look perfectly happy together, it's best you stay that way." Isabela looks away, both women already knowing she was spewing lies.
"Stop being a coward! You could kiss every boy in town Isa- do everything to distract yourself from it! You could keep making excuses or just ignore it altogether... But at the end of the day, you'll know! You'll remember just how much you love her and feel for her, you'll remember what you had let go of for the sake of someone else's happiness! Is that really how you want to live your life?!"
"You don't understand what it's like to have a perfectly written story left in your hands like a set of instructions you have to follow for the rest of your life!" Isabela laughs slightly as she looks down, her hands on her head. "I want to write my own story, but I wasn't given that priviledge."
Like she was shackled down in chains or being held captive by Abuela herself, she couldn't break free. Not when she still loved Abuela, not when she still wanted her approval of everything even if she was being used like a puppet just for her Abuela to live the life she wasn't able to live herself.
"You've been given a pen and paper to start a long time ago, but you pretend it's not there. Stop trying to run and hide like a scared little girl and face them! I've tried everything, but you haven't even raised a finger!"
Dolores kneels in pain, but bows all the same as she looks up at her prima, tears springing in her eyes. "At least save her, please... Forget about me, just save her... She doesn't deserve the pain she's going through."
She was begging like her life depended on it. Like she knew it was hopeless for her, wanting to save the one person who actually gave her a chance.
Maybe this was when she knew she wouldn't have left you for Mariano after all; having no plans to express how strongly she felt for you, just knowing that it would only add to the pressure of making you love only her. She wouldn't have let herself go for even him.
"What do you mean-?"
"Dolores!" You shout as you run up the stairs and slide against the floor to catch her in your arms. "I've got you... Everything will be okay." You whisper as you caress her cheek, her complexion paling up.
You had arrived just in time to suppress the flowers, the mere touch of your fingers chasing them away.
"What were you arguing about?" You ask as you lift her up, thanking your lucky stars that she was light or god so help you you'd be stuck in that spot for hours.
Isabela follows to her room as she looks at her prima who almost looked lifeless if she weren't breathing. "I..." Unable to form a sentence as she tries to process what happened.
"She was saying something about saving you..."
