"I know I said we'd date... But now that I think about it, I have no experience at all." You say to yourself absentmindedly, lying on your bed at eight in the morning. "And she has tons of admirers, I'm just me. What does she even see in me?"
Just as you're about to continue talking to yourself, your eyes widen and you slap your hand on top of your mouth, forgetting that she could hear everything a mile away.
You could only hope for the best that she was still asleep. Getting up groggily, you make your way down, rubbing the sleep out of your eyes.
And if god were real, how you really wish for him to make the ground eat you up. There sat Dolores, chatting happily with abuelita.
They both turn when they notice your presence, Dolores wearing a blinding smile. She stands and greets you with a kiss on the cheek, hand wrapped around your waist.
Your heart starts going miles a second, blood rushing to your face. You despised love, you always did... but maybe if it were from Dolores; from a woman who only knew how to make you feel good things... maybe it wouldn't be so bad.
"Buenos días querida." She whispers with a smile playing on her lips before it slowly forms into a pout. "I heard you, you know."
Abuelita watches with warm eyes, glad to at least see you showing intimate affection to someone. Truth be told, she was afraid you would never open up to such a love. She worried about you, especially if something unexpected would happen to her.
She wanted to make sure, that even if she were gone, you'd be able to move on with your life and stand by yourself.
With an apologetic smile, you greet your abuelita before heading to your room with Dolores hand in hand. "I'm sorry, it's just I'm worried I won't be able to make you happy."
"You don't need to worry about that. Just being with you, seeing you, and hearing your voice... all of it already makes me happy. I don't have experience either you know?" She says with a small giggle, getting seated on your bed beside you. "We can figure it out together."
You nod, feeling embarrassed. Looking into her eyes, you watch as she scans your room, her hand caressing your bed sheet and pillows slowly. "It's not much really," you whisper.
She gets closer, leaning her head on your shoulder. "It's all very you... it smells nice too, exactly like you." She brings her nose closer into the crook of your neck, one hand once again wrapping around your waist, while the other rests on top of your chest.
She didn't need to place her hand on your chest to know how fast it was beating, but she loved the feeling that she could make someone feel the same way as her; even if it wasn't Mariano.
You smile, pulling her to lie on the bed with you, cuddling. "This kind of warmth from someone else... I never thought I'd be able to feel it. At first, I distanced myself from it. But then I realized I really longed to know. It made me wonder why people were so desperate to fall in love despite all the repercussions."
Dolores pulls away slightly, caressing your cheek as she stares back at you. You search her gaze, only seeing affection in her beautiful doe eyes. "Now I understand. This euphoric feeling is so new to me, but it's exactly like what's written in all the books I've read."
She nods in response, smiling as you start to talk about yourself. Being quite closed off made her worried that you'd hesitate to communicate with her, but maybe it's the fact that you have affection for her that's making you open up.
"You know, I always loved when you would read aloud at night. It helped lull me to sleep. Your voice was somewhat like a lullaby on my insomniac nights. I loved how soft it was, and how romantic the books you were reading were. I feel like it's a side of yours that only I know about, and I wanted it to stay that way." She shares, once again pulling you closer to her own body.
You never took Dolores to be a touchy person, but you didn't mind. It was cute how she could barely keep her hands off of you. "You asked yourself what I could see in you. I've never been good with words, all I can say now is that I just wish you could see yourself in my eyes."
You close your eyes at the comfort of her touch. Never knowing what love was or how amazing it could be, always being ostracized for a trauma you brought along that was out of your control, not being liked by anyone... it was as if all these insecurities melted away at Dolores's presence.
And although you have a lot more to work on with yourself, you feel as if you've already taken a huge step away from all the negativities you trap yourself in.
You spend the morning with her in your room, slowly getting to know each other. Dolores could still hear her prima and Mariano, but she could say for sure, that it didn't hurt or bother her as much, because you were there, simply your presence was enough to steady her.
Heading out to town for a lunch date, you still walk hand in hand. Neither of you really cared about what people would think, or rather, you both tried to.
...
Slamming her hands on the table, Dolores stands up at the same time, making her voice loud enough for everyone in the diner to hear. "I don't care what you have to say about me, but stop talking trash about her. We're eating in peace and everyone is making it their business. I'm having a lovely day with a lovely person, kindly try not to ruin it."
Your reputation, of course, had followed you around the moment you stepped foot outside. Everyone was whispering about how Dolores, the sweetest next to Isabela, is being forced to counsel you.
"The people who claim she's a troublemaker are worse for spreading malicious lies. And I hate that the most. Y/n is one of the sweetest people I know, and it must be sad that you aren't lucky enough to see that side of hers." Dolores says with a menacing tone. She takes your hand and pulls you up and out of the diner before the waiter could take your orders.
"Dolores-"
She speeds towards La Casa Madrigal, already knowing there was newly cooked food inside. "None of that was your fault. They just don't know how to keep their mouths shut. All they do is keep making noise and gossip instead of doing something better with their lives."
She continues to rant in annoyance, making you smile sadly. Before she could take another step, you hug her from behind, pulling her to a stop. With a gentle whisper, your breath hits the side of her neck as you rest your chin on top of her shoulder. "The noise must've bothered you a lot... when it gets too much, just tell me and I'll do my best to ease you. I'm sorry our first date got ruined. But still, thank you for defending me."
She lets out a breath, slipping around your arms to face you. She finds you wearing a soft smile, falling into your eyes at the same time. Your usual tired eyes were replaced with a gaze filled with vulnerability. It felt fragile and raw, and it drew Dolores in.
"You don't have to thank me for something like that... But if you keep looking at me like that, I won't be able to resist. I might try to kiss you..." she whispers back, searching your eyes as if she were asking for permission.
You were in broad daylight, anyone could come around the corner and witness it but she didn't care. In the end, all you could think about was her. If you were seen being this intimate, what would they have to say about her? You didn't have to care about your own reputation, but everything would go downhill for Dolores and her family, especially because she was with someone like you.
As if she could feel your hesitation, she cups your cheek in her hand. "If you don't give me an answer I'm just going to do it..." She starts to count down from three.
And at the very last second, just as her lips were mere centimeters away, someone speaks, breaking the silence. "What- what's going on here?"

Today's chap focused on your relationship with Dol, the first date that got fucked up. I hope I was able to portray how sure Dolores was about the relationship while MC was hesitating simply because she didn't want to cause any trouble for her.
Hope y'all enjoyed this.
