Dolores lets a groan escape her lips, gently biting her lip in frustration. She leans her head on your shoulder slightly before turning away to find Isabela in both shock and disbelief.
She waits for an explanation, only for none to come. "What do you want us to say?" Dolores questions in slight annoyance, holding your hand and intertwining your fingers.
Shifting in discomfort, your free hand rubs your elbow as Isabela turns to watch every action shared between the two of you. "Are you serious about this? If people find out-"
"You and me Isa... we're not the same." pulling you along as you walk closer to her, Dolores whispers just as you pass her, only for Isabela to hear. "I'm not terrified of falling in love with her."
Because she knew well enough from the things she's heard, how both you and Isabela were holding back. Even if it was as clear as day that you felt the same way about each other.
And for Dolores, it was better to have you, than no one at all.
It once crossed her mind to help love blossom between the two of you, but she no longer had any intentions of pushing through with it. Mariano seeing her, seemed to be too much of an uncertainty.
It was a risk she wasn't willing to take.
You enter La Casa Madrigal, Dolores leading the way while you greet casita. No one was present in the dining room, their lunch probably having just ended the moment Isabela stepped out.
"Penny for your thoughts?" You ask as you get seated on the counter, watching her eyebrows meet in apprehension.
Dolores shakes her head slightly, her hand stroking her forehead gently. She felt like a hypocrite.
Telling Isabela off, when she was acting the same for Mariano. Choosing you for the certainty of love, when it was still Mariano who had owned her heart completely.
Telling some of the townsfolk off for gossiping, when she also had the bad habit of doing so. She suddenly felt...
"I don't think I deserve this." She says as she leans against the counter, right beside you.
Searching her eyes, her worries seemed to pool inside of them, clouding with turmoil. Gently, you take her hand in yours, pulling her to stand in between your legs. A warm embrace is all it takes for her to breathe better, she closes her eyes and focuses on the beat of your heart.
It was beautiful.
"I'm scared of losing you because you're the only certain thing I have in this world full of uncertainties." She whispers against your neck, her breath hitting it and sending shivers up your spine.
Dolores felt it in her throat, and it pained her that even if you were right by her, comforting her and giving her warmth; whenever she was reminded of her heart calling for only Mariano, it would scream within her, like a tornado of feelings she's unable to control.
"And I want that to be enough for me..." She whispers once again, grasping her hands against your clothes, wanting the pain to go away as guilt also flooded her.
She wasn't any better or different from Isa in this aspect, and she truly wished, that they didn't have this in common.
The food and lunch were completely forgotten, you just hugged her, knowing completely what she meant, and being unable to say anything in relation.
You wondered if you could even love Isabela as much as she did Mariano... if you, despite being in Dolores's presence, could feel the pain of the unrequited love of a curse you bear.
