You get pushed onto the clear field on the edge of the Encanto, everyone in the village gathered to watch the younger teens and children compete for numerous prizes that everyone could win.
As usual, you had gone against abuelita. And just as usual, she dragged you all the way until you had no choice. You knew where your stubbornness had come from now.
"You better win chica, those prizes already have a spot in our home," Abuelita says with fire in her eyes, acting as if she was competing herself. You wondered if she was really as old as she was because you just knew she would've competed if it were allowed.
You roll your eyes as you feel yourself already losing all those games with or without effort. "No promises, abuelita."
There were several games, ones by pairs, individuals, and groups. They would all be by lottery so you could only hope for the best. Surprisingly, you won a few individual games, getting quite competitive whenever Isabela had gotten into the same game as you.
Right after lunch, the games continue for the pairing part. "This will be your chance to make more friends," Abuelita says as she nudges your shoulder quite roughly, making you stumble slightly before fixing your footing again.
You let out a sigh, nudging her back. The single effort you put in that push was fruitless though, your abuelita being unmoved from her spot. "I'm completely fine with the way things are now, thank you very much."
Before she could give you an earful about it, you walk away, hearing her grumble at your attitude. "You brat, where do you get that from?"
You laugh, turning back to her and sticking your tongue out at her playfully. "I get it from you, who else?" Running off before she could hit you with one of her slippers.
They start the lottery, a few pairs being announced until you hear your name along with Isabela's. In perfect sync, your eyes meet in the middle of the crowd. You hadn't even noticed Mirabel looking at you in disappointment, obviously hoping to have been your partner.
Everyone knew you were on bad terms and it felt like they were all watching how either of you would react.
Abuelita on the other hand, screamed in joy, cheering the two of you on and claiming victory like you were the best pair on earth to ever exist. You felt secondhand embarrassment hit you as both her and Abuela Alma looked proud.
Isabela makes her way towards you, a competitive smirk on her lips, flowers blooming with each step she takes closer to you. "Don't worry, I'll win this thing for us."
You let a laugh slip out of your mouth, mocking her playfully in a way and copying the way she walked, only moving more exaggeratedly than her to look funny. "Right, no I think you're mistaken. I'll be bringing on the gold for us."
But both of you proved yourselves and your Abuelas wrong, tripping on each other every few seconds and losing game per game. Sure, it was embarrassing and it soon looked like Isabela could strangle you at any second, but you enjoyed it.
"Would you stop getting in my way?!" She whispers harshly, shoving you slightly to give her space to move, yet making sure not to hurt you. You absolutely missed the annoyed expression on her face, the soft feelings for you clearly gone. She was obviously stressed about her image to the people.
Abuelita lets out a sigh, shaking her head as she watches you tease Isabela. "You're the one slowing me down princesa." You whisper in her ear playfully, making her stumble in surprise at the close feeling.
She scoffs, rubbing her temples to try and keep her patience up. She couldn't shout at you or insult you since everyone was watching and you enjoyed the feeling of having the upper hand this time.
