A/N: Okay, so a slight change of plans. I am going to create a separate book for each of the special events, and just include the main story in this one, because I think it's long enough as is. Now onto the fun stuff. Welcome to Octavinelle!

Y/N emerged from the shadows, shielding herself from the bright light that was streaming out of the mirror in front of her. She inhaled sharply as she saw the dark glass, knowing immediately where she was. Once again, there were no windows, no doors, and no way of possible escape. The walls of the room were a deep purple, so dark that they were almost black, with a few black highlights in the wall sconces and lining.

"How stunning you look in that dress, my dear."

Y/N snarled at the mirror but stole a glance down at her clothing. Sure enough, she was wearing a form-fitting dress the same colour as the walls, though a few shades lighter. It hugged her torso in a way that the stories referred to as "all the right places", and flared out around her legs like a mermaid fluke. It seemed oddly simple compared to the other times that she had come to this strange place.

"I was wondering when you would return," the man in the mirror said. Y/N didn't like how she could see more than just a smoky blob now. The edges of the man's body were starting to fill in, and it seemed like his body was more a body rather than just smoke. It sent an unsettling chill down Y/N's spine.

The hand on her neck made her spine tense, and though she knew that there was no one there, she still spun, ready to strike out whoever was behind her.

"I thought you would have been used to that by now, pet."

"Don't call me that," Y/N hissed, turning back to the mirror.

She saw the man shrug.

"Are you enjoying your memories," he asked.

Y/N didn't answer.

"Oh come now, pet. I would have thought that you appreciated my efforts in trying to send more overblot to you. The more people overblot, the more you will remember."

"You're the one doing this?" Y/N was horrified that this man would put the lives of her friends at risk.

"Of course. I am the king of blot after all."

"What?"

A dark chuckle echoed around the room and Y/N was suddenly very aware of the way that the shadows danced in the flickering purple fire of the candles. The way that they seemed to grab at the hem of her dress as if they wanted to drag her down into the depths.

"Shall I tell you a little bit about myself, Y/N? Shall I tell you about who I am?" The man paused as if waiting for an answer, but when none came, he continued. "My name is Devlin. You no doubt remember my younger brother Lemar by now, don't you, pet?"

Y/N remembered her old fiance.

"Well, we were both blessed with magic. In the older years, before magic was as commonplace as it is now, few possessed the gift to harness magic. My brother studied the way that magic could be used for healing. I decided to study a slightly more... intriguing source of magic. What the world now knows as blot.

My family never understood my fascination with the blot. I suppose that I found it so interesting because it was so different from what my brother was studying. Overblot allowed someone's power to increase for a short period of time."

"There's a risk of death," Y/N snapped. "Is that worth it?"

"Of course it is. You must be willing to take risks when you desire power. Eventually, I felt that I understood blot enough to tell my parents about what I had been studying. I even brought them a sample of hardened blot to show them. But of course, they didn't appreciate the dark side of magic and shipped me off to the palace to be punished for my treason.
