Melody Parker was born in normal circumstances. She wasn't a special baby with a great destiny in front of her. When she was born, there was no evil or good in her little heart, there was no dark or light to taint her soul.

With the years, she grew up with an amazing family, a kind one. She learned a lot with her parents. Her mother used to volunteer to help feeding the poor every Christmas. Her father used to cook for the homeless every weekend. He was the owner of a small restaurant in the suburbs, one that had its usual costumers for years and those; you could easily count with your fingers. Of course he had some new costumers from time to time, but he used to say that his most loyal ones were the homeless. They really appreciated his food and every time he came home, he would smile at Melody, saying that helping people and seeing them smile was the best reward that a human being could get.

Her childhood was lived with only one motto, 'Be good to the world and the world will give you a good life'.

At the age of twenty-five she wasn't a saint, no one was, but she tried hard, every day, to follow her parent's words and example.

She worked as a waitress in one of the most prestigious restaurants in London, Alain Ducasse. It was the kind of restaurant that people barely noticed who was serving them, only having eyes for the menu and food.

One night, around nine, she was busy serving one of the tables, when she received a call from an unknown number.

Excusing herself, she went to the kitchen and walked through the back door before pressing the green button.

"Hello?" She said to the person on the other side of the line.

"Am I speaking with Miss Parker?" The woman in the other end asked, her voice calm and collected.

"Yes, It's me." Melody answered, her heart starting beating faster.

"I'm sorry to inform, but your parents were in a car accident. They are currently in the way to Saint Mary's Hospital." The voice said with empathy.

It was like the world had stopped. Melody couldn't hear anymore what the woman was saying.

"Miss Parker? Miss Parker, are you there?"

"I'm on my way...Thank you for calling." Melody managed to say, already going to search for her boss. The man didn't objected, he sent her to pick up her things and called a taxi to pick her up.

The drive to the hospital didn't took more than ten minutes, but for Melody it felt like hours.

She stumbled on her feet when she tried to get out of the cab fast and ran to the illuminated doors.

At the reception desk, she asked the nurse where they were and how they were.

The nurse apologized, saying that that kind of information, only the doctors knew. Melody ran down the corridor and entered the elevator pushing the fifth floor button.

Please let them be alright!

Her hopes were shattered into million pieces when she saw the doctor's grave expression.

No!

"Miss Parker?" The doctor asked, trying to confirm that he was going to give the sad news to the right person. He was in his thirties and he was handsome but none of that registered in Melody's head. She was too numb to even see her surroundings.

She managed to nod. Her tears threatening to fall.

"I'm so sorry. We made everything that was in our power, but they didn't resist the wounds. We are very sorry for your lost."

His words seemed sincere in her ears but after that, her body shut down all her senses.

He lead her to a door where their bodies lay, unmoved. Shaking and with uncontrollable tears falling now down her cheeks, she approached their bed.

The nurses hadn't have time to clean them so the blood was everywhere. She ignored the cables connected to the two special people she had always loved. She sat on a stool and cried in silence for a moment.

Airio had been busy all day collecting souls. This two were the last job he had to do before he retreated to his sanctuary, his home at the world above.

When he appeared at the hospital, in the room the souls had succumbed, he waited patiently for them to be ready and appear at his side.

The man came first and, like always, he seemed disoriented. Airio touched the man's shoulder and he turned.

"It's time." It was the same sentence he used say to the poor souls that passed away every day.

The man looked at his old body and then to his wife's body.

"May I at least say goodbye to my wife and child?" He whispered not looking at Airio.

"Your wife will be joining us in a few moments." He didn't like to be warm with the souls. He could see them in his world if he wanted, but it was best to maintain the distance. It helped him with his work. The man would have paled if he could but he said nothing.

Moments later, his wife soul appeared beside him. She too looked confused.

The chaos in the room had decreased and now only silent was all that could be heard.

The doctors and nurses had worked together to do the impossible, but soon they knew that the time for those two people had arrived and they couldn't do anything to contradict that.

"Let's go. We have to get to the other world." Airio was about to grab the two and go through the portal, when the souls spoke in unison.

"Let us see our daughter one last time."

Airio was going to deny that, when they spoke again.

"Please."

He didn't know if it was because they seemed desperate for that last wish or the feeling that this was really important for an unknown reason. He nodded and like that, they waited. The nurses got out of the room, when one of the doctors that had been there before, entered with a beautiful woman. She sat alone and cried holding both bodies by their hands. The souls approached the girl but didn't touched her. He had warned them that it was not allowed, because they could provoke a disturbance between worlds.

He was about to turn and open the portal when the girl started to speak. He stopped in his tracks and listened carefully what she was saying.

"Ok, I know you are not with me anymore here, but I'm sure you are together somewhere. Mom be nice to dad when he fails to do what you ask and please dad let mom have some more time to herself. And for both of you guys, don't let me alone. I would know when you are too busy with your new life to help me make dinner. I'm sure I will burn the house if I don't have anyone to remind me to turn off the oven." Melody laughed at her words. It seemed all too surreal. It was a self defense mechanism, to imagine the people she had loved, that had passed away, were actually living beside her.

Airio had seen many people talk to the death before, but it was not every day he heard someone talk as they were still alive. She had managed to make a joke even. That impressed him, and he looked at the petite girl with long blond curly hair and brilliant brown eyes. He felt something grow inside him. He couldn't catch what it was, but he would find out. He was used to have challenges and that girl, seemed a big puzzle for him to solve. He could track her easily, so he vowed to look for her and learn more about what was that sensation that seemed to be stuck inside his chest.

With one last look at the sad girl, he turned to the souls.

"We have to go. You had your moment. Your new home awaits."

With that, he opened the passage for Avaron, the world above, and they left their old life behind.
