Melody woke up early the following morning. Since it was Saturday and she had the whole day for herself, she decided to go to the cemetery. It was the first time she visited her parent's grave since the funeral.
Part of her was trying to interiorize they were dead but the other part, was convinced that they lived somewhere, in some beautiful world.
The morning was cold, so she grabbed her jacket and went to the cold streets. She bought two white flowers to give some life to their graves.
When she got there, the feelings she was trying so hard to suppress, exploded when she looked at the names of her parents on the cold stone. She realized then, that her life was far from the happy one she had before.
Melody sat between the two graves and looked at the sky. The tears began to fall down her cheeks and she remained silent for some moments.
"You know... I miss your food mom! I burned the rice twice during the last three weeks... and dad I miss you screaming at the TV when you used to watch football."
She paused before continuing speaking to the dead.
"I'm trying to gain my old life back, but I know it's like asking a lemon tree to give me apples." She chuckle at what she was saying.
The whole thing felt so surreal to her...
"I think today I will grab a disney movie and go to the orphanage we used to visit. I will tell Simon I will watch it with the kids."
She breathed out, remembering the old days when they used to go there, and give attention to the children.
After being at the cemetery for one hour, she went home to choose a DVD from her shelf. Melody had bought all Disney movies. She grabbed "Little mermaid" and went to the bus stop.
She arrived at the place thirty minutes past nine, and went inside.
Simon was at his desk and she greeted him. He was the same age as Melody. His tall frame was like a contrast to his small desk. He had blue eyes and long blond strait hair that fell to his shoulders.
"Hello Simon. How are you? How are the kids?"
His face illuminated when he saw who was speaking to him.
"Hey Mel! I'm with a lot of work but beside that, I'm great. The children are well. They miss your visits though."
Melody smiled at him.
"I was hoping I could watch a movie with them today. I miss them a lot, especially Annabelle."
She had just finished her sentence, when a little girl came running in her direction. She was six years old and, like the children at that age, she had too much energy inside her.
"Meeeelll!!!" Her high little voice pierced her ears.
Melody felt the girl's little arms embrace her waist.
"Hi An! How are you?" Melody asked looking at the curly blond hair that obscured Annabelle's face.
"Fine! You came to play with me? I received a Barbie for Christmas. Santa was really good to me this year." The little girl smiled revealing her lost teeth up front. That made Melody's smile even bigger.
"I can play with you and maybe if you want, we could watch 'Little mermaid'."
Annabelle was radiant with Mel's suggestion.
"Yeeeyyy!! I will tell Lisa and ask her to join us and maybe Marcus if he gives me his cookies from breakfast. I know he is hiding them from me." She run out of the room to find her friends.
"Each day that passes she becomes more manipulative..." Mel could only laugh at Simon's comment.
"Yes, I can see that. Poor Marcus..."
Marcus was Annabelle's older brother. He was eight years old. They had joined the orphanage two years ago after their parents disappeared without a trace. They didn't have any family left, so the orphanage was their home since then.
She waited for the children to join her in the playroom. They had a small TV there, so she prepared the movie and waited for them.
Soon, she heard the siblings argue about the famous cookies.
They entered the room and Melody greeted Marcus and Lisa.
The four sat in front of the TV with Annabelle's head on Mel's lap and the other two beside them.
They were the youngest of this orphanage and the only ones that would gladly spend two hours watching these kind of movies.
The feeling of being observed by something invisible started again, but Melody tried to relax and enjoy the company of the three people around her. Mel started stroking Annabelle's hair and the girl got closer to her.
Airio was bewildered with the scene before him. The girl that had show him so much till now was now looking at a screen with three little creatures by her side. One was lying on Melody's lap and the other two leaning on her.
The screen showed some kind of movie with too much color and songs for Airio's taste.
How did she enjoy that? And what was she doing to the girl's hair?
He looked at Annabelle closely and saw the delight in the little girl's eyes.
For some moments he wished it was he there, receiving all the attention from Melody.
He mimicked the gesture Mel was doing on his hair. The feeling was good yes, but not enough to make him be so happy like the creature laying there.
He got closer, something that was against the rules but he didn't care in that moment. It was like an impulse that he couldn't contain.
He approached Melody and got his head closer to her nape. Her hair was tight up and he smelled the scent emanating from it.
The smell of lemons reached his nostrils and he let out his breath in her direction.
Melody sensed some cold hair on her nape and turned her head around. The room was empty beside them, so she thought that all was a product of her imagination.
Maybe it is just some window that is open...
Like before, she had a voice inside her head, telling her that it was not a window, but she shoved her thoughts away and looked again to the TV screen.
Airio had not expected Melody to turn and when she did, he was staring directly at her eyes and suppressing his breathing.
Did she felt that? How?
She was so beautiful. More than he had thought from afar.
He decided to stay in a corner where he could see her and the movie playing. He saw the mermaid became a human to be with her love and after it ended, he saw Mel play with some dolls.
Too soon he returned to his world thinking about those precious hours beside Melody.
He knew he couldn't become human to be with Mel, so he decided to visit her regularly and live beside her in the darkness until the day her breath stopped.
The life that she had inside her was amazing, captivating. He returned to his work feeling that he was taking more from humans that he had thought till that moment.
