Melody was enjoying the warm day on the beach. She needed a vacation from her job, from her life. The year had been full of work with some problematic kids that seemed lost in the world. Mel herself, felt as the life had been ripped out of her. She missed her invisible lover and friend.
Why did he left me?
The billion dollar question.
She knew a having a relation with him was absurd when she couldn't see his face but still she missed him.She saw a family with two kids playing in the sand, making castles and laughing while doing it.
They were so happy. Melody wished she could be a child again. Innocent and happy without problems to cloud her mind. She sighed. She had to move on. She could not start a relation with Matt, even him been a wonderful person. She had to free herself from the man of her dreams. Five months since she last touched him and she was sure it hadn't been just a dream.
She decided to take a walk beside the sea. The waves crashing comforted her somehow but her mind refused to let her thoughts go with the water.
A desperate cry brought her to the present. She looked around and saw a boy around ten years old waving to her from the waters. He seemed distressed. She quickened her pace and saw he was drowning.
Melody didn't think twice, she started to run to take him out of the angry ocean. The cold water made her body shiver but she kept going, swimming with all her strength. She caught up to him and made him grab her neck while she went to the shore. Exhaustion began to settle and her breathing became harsh. Reaching the sand, the boy let go of her neck and stood on his knees trying to catch his breath. He looked at he and smiled.
"Thanks. I though I would die there." He said.
He turned to look for his parents. A strong wave crashed pulling Melody into the water again. She was tired for the hard swimming that she had done moments ago and her body didn't seem to have enough strength to fight again. The boy's eyes widened when he realized what was happening. He took a step forward to help her but she shouted while water began to swell her.
"Go find help!"
With one last look, he turned and started running fast, panic consuming his soul.
"Help! Help! Somebody help!!!" He yelled.
With horror, Melody saw another wave going in her direction.
Oh God! I'm going to die!
The wild water pulled her down, her head completely under it. She braced desperately to return to the surface but the sea was stronger than her and when she couldn't held up more, she opened her mouth and the salt liquid invaded her lungs. The last thoughts were to her dead family, Martha and her mysterious angel. A sense of peace reached her soul.
Airio was at home with Zarak. They had arrived shortly after collecting some souls in Australia. A car accident was the cause of the causalities.
"So how are you feeling today?" Zarak asked, siting on the couch in the living-room.
"Ok, I guess. I managed to block her emotions so it's less painful for me. I think she is fine. At least she is alive and that makes me happy." Airio replied while grabbing some beers from the fridge.
Thanks to Melody, he had learned to taste food differently. It was more rich now, the flavors combining and exploding in his mouth. She had teach him how to feel, how to see, how to live. She had managed to make him more human. Now without her, his life was empty, like a shell without his pearl inside.
Abruptly, pain shot to his heart clouding his eyes. Something was wrong, very wrong. Zarak was beside him in a second, grabbing his shoulders to maintain him up.
"It's Melody, Zarak. Something is wrong. I have to go to her." Airio said desperate to cross the portal to the world below.
"But how do you know? You said you blocked her emotions." Zarak exclaimed confused.
"I blocked the weak ones but not the strong ones." He shouted before he crossed the portal. Zarak went after his friend.
The portal opened to a beach and quickly Airio looked around searching for Mel.
He couldn't see her but he felt her presence underneath the water. He materialized in the right place and pulled her limp body to his. With her in his arms he couldn't materialize again because only what was dead could survive that, so he forced his feet to take them to the shore at a lightening speed. Zarak stood frozen looking at the scene in front of his eyes. He was shocked to see his friend in so much pain. Airio was always strong and confident but in that moment he was the opposite.
He saw people approaching them. He knew they were invisible to the human eyes but surely the CPR Airio was giving to Melody would not pass unnoticed. He hear the paramedics whispering while running in their direction.
"I never saw a drown body convulsing before. How is that possible?"
"You can't die, Mel! Please! Live!!" Airio yelled with a broken voice. Tears were falling down his face.
Zarak put a hand on Airio's shoulder.
"If she dies, you can have her for eternity by your side." He said the thing that thought could calm his friend.
"I don't want her to stop living. She showed me how it feels and I want her to enjoy more before she joins our world. I want her to be happy. I'm not a selfish person and I know she could be mine now but I prefer to wait and collect her when she is older and has more beautiful moments to remember." Airio answered angrily.
"Let them try to save her."
With much force, Zarak took Airio far from her body so the paramedics could work.
"This doesn't seams good." One said starting the compressions and Airio screamed in agony. The boy that she had save was crying while hugging his parents.
"She saved me... She can't die!!"
Melody felt herself being lift like the smoke on a campfire. Seconds later she stood observing her body, realizing she was dead. Se looked around to the people present on the beach. She saw the paramedics and some people she didn't knew, she saw the boy she had help. Then she saw two men wearing black clothes with their backs to her. One was sobbing, his shoulders shaking violently from the emotions that emanated from him. She felt her heart beat faster as she recognize his shoulders, his hair.
When he turned in her direction, she saw his eyes, black eyes full of sadness but at the same time happiness. How could the two emotions mix together, she didn't know. She felt the connection between them.
It was him, her invisible friend and lover. He smiled at her trying to comfort her soul. She felt joy overpower her being just to see him standing there waiting for her. He was really gorgeous, the most beautiful man she had seen in her life.
Melody gave him a huge smile. She opened her mouth to speak but just one word got out.
"You..."
