2005/2006

it was nearly a whole new year, and after the last one, they all needed a break. takemichi and hinata had run into mitsuya, hakkai and yuzuha at the shinto shrine, and they had conversed for a moment before deciding to do an ema. ema are small plaques of wood that you write a wish on for the new year, and they all thought they deserved to make one. 

it was nearing midnight, and more and more people started showing up at the shrine, including two other teenagers on a date.

takemichi scribbled a phrase down onto his, looking at it with a proud smile when he finished.

"done!"

"what did you write?" hina came up behind him, scaring him. he didn't want anyone to see what he wrote because it was... well, it was embarrassing. 

"haha, you see hina... if anyone sees it, then it won't come true!" he tried to save it. 

"huh, what is it?" 

"lemme see, takemitchy." every started to swarm around him trying to get a peek at what he wanted to keep a secret so badly.

"NO, NO!" he yelled, hoping they would back off, but as he waved his arms around, he let go of the ema. he chased it from the ground as it flew a few metres through the air, eventually landing with a clatter next to someone's feet. 

"huh?" and of course, it was y/n that picked it up. she was dressed up in the prettiest yukuta possible, and was practically glowing. even if you didn't find her pretty (a crime), you could tell for damn sure that her boyfriend did. chifuyu hadn't taken his eyes off of her the whole night, and no one could blame him.

"what the hell?" he turned around to see where the ema had come from, his eyes landing on none other than takemichi.

"takemitchy?"

"CHIFUYU?! Y/N?!" he shouted. he must not have calmed down yet, because he seemed to have forgotten how to speak at a normal volume.

"GIMME THAT BACK!" he lunged for the little piece of wood in y/n's hand, but she instinctively dodged, and threw it to chifuyu, who also threw it away from them. 

"YOU JERKS! WHY'D YOU THROW IT?!" he screamed.

"sorry, reflex." they said in unison, smiling at each other after they had said it in sync. 

takemichi's screams attracted most of the toman higher-ups to their location, and they were now naturally talking with each other as if takemichi wasn't throwing a tantrum in the background. they did, however, have to follow him at he ran further into the crowd, afraid of losing him. 

"MY EMAAAAA!" he cried in agony as he kept kicking it away from himself accidentally. y/n and chifuyu laughing at the boy didn't help his attitude.

"your emma?" they all ran into emma, draken, and mikey. it was a poor coincidence that their friend had the same name as the item he was chasing, "what do you mean 'your emma'?"

"oh! takemitchy." draken greeted, with zero questions about what was happening. 

"did you mean this?" mikey grinned childishly as he held up takemichi's wish.

once again, takemichi screamed.

"please give that back!!!"

"you look pretty desperate." mikey said, causing y/n to laugh again, "okay! here you go."

before they got a chance to say anything, there was a huge cheer from the crowd.

"what's happening?" y/n asked.

"10 seconds 'till the new year!" someone called.

"let's jump together, guys!" mikey called, getting everyone excited.

"FIVE!" the crowd shouted, and chifuyu got an idea.

"FOUR!" y/n had sort of hoped that she would be able to live the cliche of getting kissed on new years, but jumping with her friends was still fun.

"THREE!"

"TWO!" chifuyu grabbed her hand and pulled her out of the group.

"what're you-"

"ONE!" and then he kissed her. as everyone yelled 'happy new year!', they were in each other arms, lips connected in a warm kiss. they were definitely making everyone jealous, but they didn't care. it was 2006, and they were going to have the best year, and all of the rest to come.
