i remember when i wasn't like this.
i wasn't particularly special to anyone, but i told myself i was fine with that.
i didn't need anybody close to me.
then, out of the blue, i met you.
you were the person that i didn't know would be the one for me.
you were the one who gave my name meaning. you helped me find myself again.
you made me feel my self-worth.
how could i ever repay you?
another thing i'd later think about.
then, you said i could repay you just by being by your side.
but, that didn't feel like any sort of repayment.
i always wanted to be by your side, after all. i never wanted to leave.
"kazuha? are you okay?" y/n asks me, with a confused look on her face as to why i seemed so lost in my thoughts.
"yes, i'm alright. thank you for being considerate." i smile back at her, not wanting her to worry about me, out of all things.
"i'm just looking out for you!" she teases, nudging my shoulder.
now i remember. we were at the park, having a picnic to celebrate our anniversary.
it had been three years since we first started dating.
not a lot of people were around, which was surprising, considering the fact it was a sunday.
"here, kazuha, aaah." she motions toward me, telling me to open my mouth. there was a chocolate-covered strawberry in her hand that she was planning to feed me.
"haha, what's with the sudden affection?" i ask, as she suddenly gets embarrassed.
"sh..shut up! just eat it!" she pouts, her face now covered in blush.
"yes, ma'am." i reply, taking a large bite from the fruit. i couldn't deny it was delicious.
then again, everything tastes delicious whenever i'm with her, so...
"good?" she asks.
"...tasty." i reply, to which she answers with the sweetest smile on her face.
right then and there, i felt like the luckiest person on earth.
"it's really been three years, huh?" she sighs out of the blue. i blush just thinking about all the time we've spent with each other.
"yeah, it's crazy to think about." i return, holding her free hand. she quickly notices and tightly squeezes mine.
"i couldn't be happier." she says, looking up at the light blue, cloud-filled skies. the sun was shining down on us; luckily there was a tree that gave us some shade.
"me either. we've learned so much about each other, huh?" i mention, pulling her into a hug as we both look up to the sky now.
"yeah.." she says, finally breaking gaze with the clouds as she closes her eyes and lays on her side. i do the same, looking at her.
she suddenly opens her eyes, which slightly startled me at first. but then, she laughed.
"you're the best partner anybody could ask for, kazuha. has anybody told you how amazing you are?" she compliments, as i immediately turn red from all of the sentiment she had just given me.
"...you're the only one. with the exception of family, of course." i grin, as she continues laughing. she had been my only partner since day one.
"of course, of course." she replies, as we both gaze into each others' eyes lovingly.
...
i finally muster up all the courage to get up from where i had been laying with her. she raises an eyebrow as she gets up as well.
i hold both of her hands gently. i could feel the sweat forming on my forehead. i could feel my face starting to burn, though i wasn't going to let anything stop me.
this was the perfect moment to tell her.
i suddenly get up, letting go of her hands. she sits and looks up at me.
"...kazuha...?"
she looks at me worried.
please, don't look at me like that.
meeting you has been one of the greatest moments of my life.
that's why...
that's why i'm doing this.
i grab the box from one of the pockets in my jacket, as i slowly open it, and kneel on one knee.
i had been waiting for this moment for too long.
i wanted...i wanted to let her know how much i love her.
how much she's dear to me.

"y/n, will you marry me?"
"of course."
